Dear Valued Vendor,
As part of our ongoing commitment to ethical sourcing and responsible business practices, we are conducting a survey to assess our vendors' compliance with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) in the United States and Bill S-211, the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act, in Canada.
Background
- UFLPA (US): The UFLPA, enacted in the US, aims to eradicate forced labor from supply chains, particularly addressing concerns regarding the human rights abuses occurring in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China. It establishes a rebuttable presumption that goods mined, produced, or manufactured wholly or in part in the XUAR are made with forced labor and are therefore prohibited from importation into the US.
- Bill S-211 (Canada): Bill S-211, recently passed in Canada, requires Canadian companies and government entities to report on measures they are taking to prevent and reduce the risk of forced labor and child labor in their supply chains. This legislation promotes transparency and accountability in addressing human rights violations within global supply chains.
