    Welcome to the Menaul School Scholarship Application. This form is designed for families to apply for scholarships available at Menaul School for an individual student. If you are applying for scholarships for multiple students, please complete a separate form for each student. Completing the Form: The application is divided into sections that will gather essential information about the student and allow you to indicate the scholarships for which you wish to apply. Scholarship Selection: You may apply for any scholarships you believe the student may qualify for. Applying for one scholarship does not affect eligibility for others. Confidentiality: All information provided will be used solely to evaluate the student's eligibility for scholarships and will remain confidential. Incomplete Application: This form is an application only for scholarships and is not the application for admission to Menaul School nor the application for financial aid. A student will not be evaluated for eligibility for scholarships until the admission and financial aid applications are complete and have been submitted.     In the following sections of this application, you will indicate the scholarships for which you wish to apply. There is no disadvantage in applying for any scholarship you believe you may qualify for. Ineligibility for one scholarship will not affect your eligibility for others. Menaul School's merit-based scholarships fall into three broad categories: Mind, Body, and Spirit. In addition, students may apply for more specialized scholarships including the Corio Aspiring Innovators Scholarship, which is need and merit-based, and the Gladfelter Legacy Scholarship, which is based on active membership within Menaul School's historical communities.
  • Mind Scholarships

    Mind Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and intellectual engagement. Eligible candidates exhibit high grades—such as 3s and 4s at the elementary level or a strong GPA in middle and upper school—and highly proficient results on standardized tests like NWEA, STAR, IStation, NAEP, PSAT/SAT, or ACT, and/or possess a Gifted Individualized Education Program (IEP). Additionally, consideration is given to those who have achieved recognition in regional or national academic competitions (e.g., spelling bees, essay contests, geography bees, science or math Olympiads) or have held leadership positions in academic organizations, such as serving as president of a math club, chess club, or captain of a debate team, verified by a teacher or coach.
  • Submission of Academic Evidence

    Applicants for the Mind Scholarship are required to provide specific evidence showcasing their outstanding academic achievements and leadership qualities. All applicants to Menaul School are required to submit transcripts, standardized test scores, and Gifted Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or gifted teacher recommendations as part of the standard application process. Acceptable evidence includes:
  • Standardized Test Scores:

    Test scores such as NWEA MAP, Star, IStation, NAEP, SAT, ACT, PSAT, or Pre-ACT scores above the 70th percentile
  • Academic Competition Results:

    Records of achievements in regional or national academic competitions, such as spelling bees, essay-writing contests, geography bees, or science and math Olympiads.
  • Academic Leadership:

    Holding significant leadership roles in academic organizations—such as serving as president of a math club, chess club, or captain of a debate team. Evidence would consist of a letter from a current coach or advisor outlining the role held.

  • Body Scholarships

    Body Scholarships recognize students who exemplify strong health habits and outstanding physical achievements. These scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in external athletic competitions—such as winning championships, earning All-State recognition, achieving significant titles, or setting records in their respective sports. This includes notable achievements in martial arts or dance competitions, highlighting skill, technique, and dedication at a competitive level beyond mere participation. Additionally, consideration is given to students who exhibit exceptional sportsmanship and leadership qualities in sports, as formally recognized by coaches, officials, or fellow athletes. Leadership roles such as serving as captain of a junior varsity, varsity, or competitive club team also qualify.
  • Submission of Athletic Evidence

    Applicants for the Body Scholarship are required to provide specific evidence showcasing their outstanding athletic achievements and leadership qualities. Acceptable evidence includes:
  • Awards and Trophies:

    Records of championships won, All-State recognitions, significant titles earned, or records set in your respective sport.
  • Certificates of Achievement:

     Official certificates highlighting your accomplishments in athletic competitions, including martial arts or dance events where competitive participation and success are evident.
  • Documentation of Special Athletic Achievements:

     Records testifying to exceptional performances or noteworthy milestones in your athletic career.
  • Letters of Recommendation:

    Formal letters from coaches, teachers, or officials that outline your leadership roles—such as serving as captain of a junior varsity, varsity, or competitive club team—and attest to your sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

  • Spirit Scholarships

    Spirit Scholarships honor students who embody community engagement, strong character, and cultural awareness. These scholarships are awarded to those who have made significant contributions to community service organizations or initiatives, and to students whose outstanding character, integrity, and ethical values are highlighted by letters of recommendation from external sources like elected officials, community leaders, or religious figures. They also recognize exceptional achievements in vocal performance, music, and the arts—including participation in regional or state-level competitions, a history of performances, or awards received for their talents. Additionally, students demonstrating "World Smart" values through proficient multilingualism, long-term study of a foreign language, or participation in international exchange programs are eligible. The Menaul Alumni Award within this category celebrates the bond between generations of Menaul alumni, recognizing relatives of alumni and underscoring how the Menaul School spirit is passed down through families profoundly shaped by their experiences at the school.

    Please ensure that you complete this form and submit at the end. Upon your completion, we will be in communication with you directly to determine your family's specific alumni relationships to Menaul School.
  • If you are certain of your alumni relationship to Menaul School, you will qualify for the highest level of Spirit Scholarship and further application for a Spirit Scholarship is unnecessary. If you are uncertain of a demonstrable alumni relationship, you may wish to continue.

  • Submission of Spiritual Evidence

    Applicants for the Spirit Scholarship are required to provide specific evidence showcasing their community engagement, strong character, cultural awareness, connection to family alum, and achievements in the arts. Evidence includes:
  • Community Service Records:

    Documentation of significant contributions to community service organizations or initiatives, such as certificates of volunteer hours, letters of acknowledgment, or awards received for service.
  • Letters of Recommendation:

    Formal letters from external sources—such as elected officials, community leaders, or religious figures—that highlight the student's outstanding character, integrity, and ethical values.
  • Arts and Music Achievements:

    Certificates or awards from regional or state-level competitions in vocal performance, music, or visual arts; documentation of performances in concerts or recitals; or portfolios showcasing artistic talents.
  • World Smart Credentials:

    Evidence of proficient multilingualism, such as language proficiency certificates or records of long-term structured study of a foreign language; documentation of participation in international exchange programs or cultural immersion experiences.

  • Corio Aspiring Innovators Scholarship

    The Corio Aspiring Innovators Scholarship is awarded to motivated, highly-performing students on track to attend university whose families demonstrate financial need beyond what is provided by the school's Individualized Tuition Program. Eligible applicants are rising 6th to 11th graders applying for Domestic Day or Domestic Boarding who are residents of New Mexico.To apply for the Corio Scholarship, you should have already completed the Financial Aid application through Clarity. Your student will also be required to submit two essays they have written themselves.
  • Submission of Corio Evidence

    Applicants for this scholarship are required to submit two essays of 500-800 words that showcase their personal experiences, goals, and critical thinking abilities. Remember to adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your essays:
  • Essay 1: Personal Introduction

    Introduce yourself and tell us what we should know about you. Choose one of the following topics or a subject of your own creation to focus on: 1) An experience from your childhood that shaped who you are, 2) The story of your journey as a student over the years, 3) A significant challenge you have overcome (or are currently working on), 4) A personal goal you have, and how this goal emerged from your life experiences. Guidelines: Write in a narrative style, as if you are speaking directly to someone. Focus on one topic to provide a deep and insightful reflection rather than trying to cover multiple areas.
  • Essay 2: Impactful Invention

    Write about an invention that you believe has had a significant impact on people's lives. You may select an invention from any point in history. In your essay, make sure to include the following: 1) What is the invention? 2) What problems does the invention solve, and why does this matter? 3) What importance does this invention have in your life? 4) Optional: How would you improve this invention? Guidelines: This is an expository essay intended to showcase your ideas and analytical thinking. Provide clear explanations and personal insights into why this invention is significant.

  • Gladfelter Legacy Scholarship

    The Gladfelter Legacy Scholarship honors the legacy of Katherine Gladfelter, a Presbyterian missionary and philanthropist. This scholarship supports the Presbyterian Church's mission to serve Hispanic and Native American families within the Synod of the Southwest, and this scholarship is offered in partnership with the Presbyterian Church. It is awarded to students who embody the values and traditions of this mission, promoting education and community service among these communities.
