About the Project
Red Hook Art Project (RHAP) is seeking submissions from community artists for our public art initiative, Power, Privilege, and Identity. This project invites artists to contribute finished works exploring personal and collective interpretations of these themes. Selected artworks will be printed on vinyl and prominently displayed as part of a large-scale outdoor exhibit at Coffey Park, creating a vibrant and thought-provoking showcase for the Red Hook community and beyond.
Theme
We encourage artists to reflect on what Power, Privilege, and Identity mean to them, exploring their manifestations in places, objects, or individuals that hold personal or cultural significance. Submissions should challenge stereotypes, foster empathy, and celebrate the unique perspectives of the Red Hook community.

Fence surrounding Coffey Park, 85 Richards St, Red Hook
Who Can Apply?
This open call is for community-based artists working in any medium, including:
● Visual artists (painting, drawing, photography, digital art, mixed media)
● Artists with strong ties to Red Hook, Brooklyn, or those whose work engages with themes of identity, social justice, and representation.
Submission Guidelines
● Artwork should be completed, ready for submission, and suitable for large-scale printing.
● Files must be submitted in high-resolution digital format (JPEG at 300 DPI).
● Include a brief artist statement (200 words max) explaining how your piece relates to the theme.
● Up to three pieces per artist may be submitted for consideration.
What’s Provided:
● Selected works will be professionally printed on vinyl and installed at Coffey Park.
● Artists will receive public recognition for their contributions in the exhibit and promotional materials.
Copyright
The submitting Artist retains the ownership of the copyright for their work and permits Red Hook Art Project/Arts Gowanus to make a printed copy of the artwork for the outdoor banner display and use the image or artwork for advertising and promotion of the exhibition.
Banners
Artworks will be printed on 36 x 36 vinyl banners. After the exhibition ends, each artist banner will be given to the participant. Due to the nature of this outdoor exhibition, we cannot guarantee the safety of the banners and may not be able to protect them from theft or vandalization. Banners not collected will be donated to be recycled
