The Wisconsin Department of Health Services awarded Brown County Public Health with $50,000 to use towards radon awareness and mitigation.
Radon is a naturally occurring gas that enters buildings from the soil. Over years, radioactive particles in radon can damage lung cells leading to cancer.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the Unted States after smoking.
Complete and submit this form with radon test results showing a radon level over 4 pCi/L by January 1st, 2026. Eligible participants will then be randomly selected, and 50 awardees will be chosen to receive $1000 towards radon mitigation system installation.
If selected, Brown County Public Health will make payment directly to the NRSB/NRPP certified radon mitigation company that completed the radon mitigation system installation on your home.
Prior to payment, the radon mitigation company chosen by the recipient must be verified NRSB/NRPP radon certified, and mitigation work must be verified by signing an attestation form. A gift card acceptance agreement must also be signed and submitted to Brown County Public Health.
All associated costs over the $1000 awarded payment will be the responsibility of the homeowner.
To receive the $1000 payment, all radon mitigation work must be completed and the invoice submitted to Brown County Public Health by 6/30/2026.
Since the value of the payment is over $600, Brown County Public Health will collect a W-9 form from the recipient. The Recipient will then receive a 1099 from Brown County Public Health.
Only Brown County residents who would receive services from Brown County Public Health are eligible. Those who would receive services from De Pere Public Health or the Oneida Nation Health Department are ineligible.
Applicants must own the residence, and the residence must be the applicant’s primary residence. $1000 maximum award per individual applicant.
Brown County employees are not eligible.
