Thanks for your interest in Norfolk Area Pride's Peer Groups! Please read this section before filling out the form that follows.
Norfolk Area Pride has recognized the need for supportive, safe, and fun peer groups in Northeast NE for members of the LGBTQ+ community and their parents. Meetings are open to anyone living in the Norfolk Area, or with connections to the Norfolk Area.
Peer Group Guidelines
- Confidentiality- Group members will be expected to uphold one another’s confidentiality. All information disclosed within a meeting is confidential and may not be revealed outside of the meeting, including but not limited to "outing" someone. The group facilitator cannot reveal information outside of the meeting except where disclosure is required by law:
- If someone presents an imminent threat to themselves or others
- When there is an indication of abuse of a child, elder or dependent adult
- By court subpoena
- LGBTQ+ Centering- The 5th-8th grade, 9th-12 grade, and Adult (19+) Group will center the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. Allies are welcome and invited to attend and participate in these groups as guests.
- Disruptive Participants- Norfolk Area Pride reserves the right to excuse disruptive participants from current and/or future group meetings.
- Group Purpose- Peer groups exist to create a welcoming envioronment for participants to share their personal experiences, exchange helpful resources, and learn from eachother. Peer groups are not therapeutic in nature. They are not intended to diagnose or treat mental health.
- Facilitators- All peer group facilitators are volunteers and have undergone background checks.
Parent Group | 4th Thursday | 6:30
This group is for parents and/or caregivers of LGBTQ+ individuals of any age. It is facilitated by two parents of LGBTQ+ children who are also board members. This group is for parents looking for support, answers, or comraderie.
5th-8th Grade Group | 4th Thursday | 6:30
This group is for LGBTQ+ or questioning individuals in middle school or junior high looking for support and fun in a safe environment. It is facilitated by a parent of an LGBTQ+child and board member. This group meets at the same time and in the same location as the parent group. Parents are encouraged, but not required, to simultaneously attend the parent group. Parental permission is required for the 5th-8th grade group.
9th-12th Grade Group | 3rd Wednesday | 6:30
This group is for LGBTQ+ or questioning individuals in high school. It is facilitated by present and past adult board members.
Adults (19+) Group | 2nd Wednesday | 5:30
This group is for LGBTQ+ or questioning individuals that are over the age of 18. It is facilitated by queer adults and board members.
After registering, you will receive an email from your facilitator with meeting location info.
