ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Nassau Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is offering a four-year award
entitled The Hildyne Bowens HBCU Scholarship to a graduating senior who is planning to
attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). In addition, we are also offering
Incentive Awards to assist students attending any two-year college or technical school or four-
year college/university to be used towards their educational pursuits.
ELIGIBITY REQUIREMENTS
All applications must meet the following guidelines:
- Must reside in Nassau County
- Must attend a Nassau County High School
- Be a graduating high school senior planning to attend a two-year or four-year college or
university or technical school
- Must have Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of
- 85% or above - Scholarship to be used towards attending a Historically Black
College/University
- 85% or above – Incentive Award to be used towards any four-year college
- 75% or above – Incentive Award to be used towards any two-year college or
technical school
- Participation in community activities
- Involvement in extracurricular activities in and out of school
- Children of members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated are not eligible for the scholarship or incentive awards.
APPLICATION CHECKLIST
A complete application and all supporting documents must be submitted to be considered for the scholarship and/or incentive awards. All materials MUST BE RECEIVED by March 31, 2026.
- A complete application contains the following:
- Completed application with signed Declaration by parent and applicant.
- Official transcript with cumulative GPA requirement sent from your school. Must have
school seal.
- SAT/ACT scores (Optional).
- Two (2) signed Letters of Recommendation addressed to Nassau Alumnae Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Scholarship Committee and written on official
letterhead. REMINDER: One letter of recommendation must be from school personnel.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Factors considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee in evaluating applications include:
Academic Achievement, Community Service, and Leadership.
- Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.
- Transcripts and letters of recommendations submitted by the applicant will not be accepted. These documents must come from official sources.
- Recommendation letters not on official letterhead and/or unsigned will not be accepted.
- Incomplete applications and/or late applications will not be reviewed. All parts of the application must be completed. All requested documents and letters must be received.
RECOMMENDATION LETTERS
- Two letters of recommendation are required for application submission. One letter of
recommendation MUST be from school personnel.
- Each letter of recommendation must be addressed to Nassau Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Scholarship Committee.
- Be on the official letterhead of the writer.
- State the applicant’s name, relationship to the applicant, and length of time the recommender has known the applicant.
- Speak to the applicant’s character, education, service, level of commitment, and any other pertinent information the committee should consider.
- Be uploaded as a PDF attachment.
SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW PROCESS
Applicants who qualify are required to participate in an interview and will be contacted by the
Scholarship Committee. All interviews will be virtual. Scholarship interviews will be scheduled
during the month of April thru May 2026. More details regarding the specific date and time of
the interview will be provided to the finalists.
NOTIFICATION OF AWARDS
All applicants will be notified by May 2026, upon completion of the scholarship award
process.
