  • Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation's Continuing Education Scholarship Application

    The Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation’s Continuing Education Program is designed to provide up to $3,000 in scholarships to sworn firefighters pursuing higher education degrees. The purpose of the program is to support firefighters in furthering their education, enhancing their skills, and promoting leadership within the department. By offering financial assistance, the program helps reduce the barriers to education and encourages professional growth. Applicants will be selected based on but not limited to essay answers, current academic progress, professional standards, and career potential.
  • Application Open: Rolling Basis

  • Eligibility Requirements

    • Be an active full-time firefighter with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
    • Good standing with the Office of Professional Standards.
    • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0.
    • Be pursuing a fire service-related degree
    • Pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree. Employees pursuing master's degree or higher cannot qualify for AFRF continue education scholarships.
    • Participate in surveys, provide testimonials, or engage in similar activities as requested by the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation.
    • Submit the required documentation if applicable. 
    • Answer required essay questions.
    • Employee has completed the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department's required probationary period.
    • Ranking of Captain and below will be considered for scholarship.
    • Recipients of Atlanta Fire Rescue Department Aviation Scholarship will not be considered for this scholarship.
    • Recipients of any Learning Partner Scholarship will not be considered.
    • Employee agrees to continue employment with AFRD for no less than three (3) additional years following the reimbursed semester by signing the Service Agreement included in the tuition reimbursement application. AFRD Human Resources Manager will notify the AFRF of any student(s) who leaves AFRD or are terminated before the completion of three (3) years of service after the last date of the remittance to the student of tuition assistance. If the employee does not complete three (3) years of service after such date, the employee must repay the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation the full amount of the reimbursement within 90 days of their separation date. Any unpaid balance after 90 days will be turned over to a collection agency.

    Scholarship funds will be paid directly to student account through the institution bursar's office, student financial services office, or student accounts office.

  • Certification and Authorization to Release Information

  • By signing below, I hereby authorize the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation (AFRF) to contact my academic institution for the purpose of obtaining and verifying information necessary to process payments on my behalf. This includes, but is not limited to, enrollment status, tuition balances, and other relevant details required to facilitate payment directly to the institution. I understand that this information will be used solely for the administration of AFRF’s educational funding programs and will remain confidential in accordance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.

  • I understand that submitting this application form does not guarantee that I will receive a scholarship. I understand that scholarships are competitive and that recipients are selected by the scholarship committee.

    If I am selected to receive a scholarship, I understand that I will be contacted by the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation using the phone number and/or the email I have provided on this application form.

    I certify that all information provided in the application form above is truthful and has been completed to the best of my knowledge and in good faith. I understand that if I falsify information contained in this form, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation reserves the right to deny me consideration for current and future scholarship opportunities.

    I understand that any scholarship awarded will be paid directly to my current institution I am attending and have submitted qaulifying documents for via this application. 

    I acknowledge that all forms, transcripts and other required documents submitted to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation will become the property of the Foundation and will not be share unless otherwise require and authorized.

    I agree to continue employment with AFRD for no less than three (3) additional years following the scholarship semester.
