Nelson Nature School is running several programmes throughout the year for children aged 5-12. Bring your friends, clothes that can get dirty, a huge snack and an adventure spirit! We recommend keeping an eye on our Facebook for any other events.

Please inform us of any medicals, neurodiversity, extra support, dietaries, etc. Include if your child is impulsive, as this is important when managing risk in an outdoor setting. School permission
I understand it is my responsibility to inform my child's school that they will be attending Nelson Nature School one day a week
We currently supervise all children closely when in or near water. With your permission, we may allow some of the more responsible/careful children occasional opportunities to explore the river area more independently (while still in sight and always knowing their location). Which of the following best reflects your preference for your child?*
*
I would prefer active supervision to be continued when my child/ren is near the water
I am satisfied that my child/ren is responsible & sensible enough to play and explore the river independently
Other, please answer in notes below
Please do not bring any bush knives to the nature school. We will assess each child's skill and educate on safety before any sharp tools come out. Once we are satisfied, children will be able to use the ones we provide.

Ok
If signing up for full-day Thursdays in the Brook: The public bus #4 connects our three current locations: Waimarama gardens, Eureka park and the Brook Sanctuary. Do you accept your child being on this bus? They'll always be accompanied by an adult, fare covered by us if we do choose to use it.

One of the most important safety requirements is clothing: inappropriate clothing could result in overheating or cold, being wet unnecessarily, etc. We will have extra warm gear and will check what they are wearing before getting into the stream, but it is important that you, as a parent, check before leaving home.
*
I will read the list of what to bring and avoid thinking "it's sunny today, we won't need this" (we've all been there!). Just email or mention it at drop-off time if something is missing ;)
We carry pamol (kids paracetamol, liquid) and anthisan cream (for allergic reactions, stings or nettles) in the adult-only first aid kit. Do you consent us using these if we deem it necessary?
*
Yes, with care and after other simpler options have been tried.
Yes, but call me first.
Only in the case of medical emergency with medical professional support.
Other, please write in notes at the end.
Can we take photos of your child/ren? This will help us describe what we do to others. We may use it on the website, facebook/instagram group, or in pamphlets/ posters.
*
Yes, just text me if you aren't sure about a specific one
As long as the face isn't showing, it's fine
Nope, not even from the back

Term 4 has 10 weeks, so for example the full programme of 70$/week is 700$/term. We can check over your payment once it comes through, but if something doesn't look right on the invoice please email us. Please complete the payment BEFORE the programme, as it becomes hard to cover costs if it doesn't come through in time. Thank you, and see you soon!
