    • What is an enrollment lottery?
    • An enrollment lottery is a random selection process to determine which students will be admitted to a charter school when there are more applicants than available spots.

    • Who should fill out the lottery form?
    • New Students: Please complete the EnrollOKC form and submit it by midnight on February 12, 2026.

Siblings of Current ASTEC Students: Automatically accepted but must complete the EnrollOKC lottery form before February 12, 2026, to receive priority.

Current ASTEC Students: Do not fill out the EnrollOKC form. Current students are automatically accepted and given first priority. ASTEC will send re-enrollment information to current scholars in early January 2026.

    • How does an enrollment lottery work?
      • Each year, ASTEC conducts a lottery drawing to fairly distribute enrollment spots when demand exceeds the available seats.
      • This year, ASTEC is part of the EnrollOKC Common Application, which allows families to complete one fast and easy form to apply to ASTEC or any OKC-area charter school.
      • If more than one school is selected, parents rank the schools in order of preference.
      • The randomized lottery system allows for a fair and equitable distribution of seats when demand exceeds the number of available seats.
      • Current ASTEC scholars do not need to enter the lottery. Their spot is secure as long as they complete the ASTEC intent-to-enroll form, which will be distributed in early 2026.
      • Siblings of currently enrolled ASTEC scholars are guaranteed admission; however, families must still complete the EnrollOKC application to secure the sibling seat.
      • Administrators place unselected students from the lottery on a waitlist. Families will be notified if a seat becomes available.
    • What happens after the lottery drawing?
    • After the lottery, ASTEC will contact families with the next steps needed to officially secure their child’s seat. Completing these steps on time ensures your child’s place at ASTEC; if the steps are not completed, the seat will be offered to another family, and the student may be placed at the end of the waitlist.

    • How is ASTEC funded?
    • ASTEC receives a percentage of the per-pupil funds from the state and local school districts for operational costs based on enrollment. However, in several states, including Oklahoma, charter schools do not receive the full equivalent of their district counterparts. Unlike traditional district schools, most charter schools, including ASTEC, do not receive funding to cover the costs of securing a facility.

    • What are the required enrollment documents?
    • The EnrollOKC lottery process does not require any documents, making it quick and simple for families to apply. Being selected in the random lottery drawing is the first exciting step toward joining the ASTEC community.

After the lottery, ASTEC will contact families with the next steps needed to officially secure their child’s seat. Completing these steps on time ensures your child’s place at ASTEC; if the steps are not completed, the seat will be offered to another family, and the student may be placed at the end of the waitlist.

At that time, parents will be asked to complete online enrollment forms and to provide the following:

      • Proof of age: A birth certificate, baptismal certificate, physician's certificate, or previous academic records with a date of birth
      • Proof of residency: A utility bill, voter registration card, lease agreement, or ID/driver's license
      • Immunization record: A current immunization record or a state-approved exemption form

    • What is a charter school?
    • Charter schools are free public schools open to all. They design them to deliver programs tailored to educational excellence and to fit the needs of the communities they serve.

Charter schools are representative of the fastest and most successful educational reforms in the country. The first charter school opened in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1991.

Based on the belief that America’s public schools should meet standards of excellence and be held accountable, parents are lining up to choose innovative public schools to meet their children’s needs.

Charter schools operate on three basic principles:

      • Choice: Charter schools allow families to choose the most suitable school for their child’s educational well-being. Teachers choose to create and work at schools where they directly shape the best working and learning environment for their scholars and themselves. Likewise, charter sponsors choose to authorize schools that are likely best to serve the scholars’ needs in a particular community.
      • Accountability: Charter schools are judged based on their ability to meet the student achievement goals established in their charter contract. They must also show they can perform according to rigorous fiscal and managerial standards. It will be closed if a charter school cannot meet these standards.
      • Freedom: Charter schools must adhere to the same primary state and federal laws and regulations as all other public schools. However, they have freedom from some red tape that often diverts a school’s energy and resources away from educational excellence.
