  • 19. Keeping a dog fit and healthy throughout its life takes a financial commitment. McNabs are a long lived breed. They will need regular vetting, appropriate potato, pea, and legume free food (we’re currently following the FDA’s guidelines on avoiding potatoes, pea, and legumes in dog food due to increased risk of food related DCM), flea/tick and heart worm medicine. Are you prepared to take on a 10+ year commitment?*
  • 20. Will you crate train your McNab?*
  • 26. Are you willing to sign a contract saying you would return the dog to the breeder if you can’t keep the dog for any reason?*
  • 28. Do you understand that raising a puppy takes a lot of time and patience. They will need consistent training. McNabs are a working breed and will need regular exercise, mental stimulation, and socialization throughout their life. They’re not a dog that can be kept in the backyard. If their needs aren’t being met they will find a way to do it themselves, which can lead to unwanted behaviors. Do you acknowledge that you have the time to commit to a McNab puppy at this time?*
  • 29. We raise our dogs using a strong socialization program, which emphasizes that puppies are matched to their family based on need and personality. Puppies will be temperament tested at 49 days old. Once puppies are temperament tested using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test, we will match each family/person to the best puppy for them. We wouldn’t want a family or person who wants a high drive sport dog ending up with a couch potato or an older couple thats looking for a companion ending up with a high energy working dog. We strive to make sure we match the dogs to the right homes. We do try and take preferences into account, such as sex and color. Are you ok with not picking a puppy from a picture, but being matched to a puppy?*
