  • Purpose of Sponsorships:

    To promote the Utah Historical Society’s (UHS) agency brand through support of organizations that are in alignment with the UHS’ mission, vision, and values.

    Our mission is to foster curiosity about the past, inform the present, and strengthen our shared future.

    Our vision: We envision a UHS that is outward facing, engaged, proactive, integrated and bridge building. Through our work, we envision the following impacts:

    • Cultivating empathy and understanding.
    • Fostering trust among staff, partners, communities, and new audiences.
    • Establishing a paradigm of a comprehensive historical perspective.
    • Helping all Utahns see themselves in Utah history.
    • Ensuring the practice of history is valued and reliable, steeped in credible, evidence-based research.

    UHS’ Five Strategic Priorities:

    • Expand opportunities to exchange knowledge and resources that support the practice of history with all constituents statewide.
    • Strengthen the health and sustainability of our organization.
    • Deepen our commitment to support the complete history of Utah by illuminating all perspectives and transforming the ways history work is practiced in Utah.
    • Enhance and clarify our outward communications and marketing efforts.
    • Increase public outreach, community engagement, and audience development throughout our organizations.

    Sponsorship Criteria and Guidelines

    • Assists in reaching UHS strategic initiatives. See strategic plan here.  
    • Promotes UHS agency brand. 
    • Assists in promoting and facilitating access and opportunity to Utah history organizations and structures.
    • Support is limited to events or conferences (may include series of the same event), or products produced, such as lesson plans, educational websites, etc. .
    • Granted to organizations with a W9 EIN, not individuals.  
    • Preference may be given to organizations not previously sponsored by UHS.
    • Awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis as funds are available.
    • Applications should be submitted at least two months prior to the event.
    • Amounts are generally between $500 and $2,500.
    • Please be aware that your organization is not guaranteed the full funding amount. The amount awarded is subject to the amount of applications received AND the amount of funds available (this dollar amount varies every year).

    If your organization is awarded a sponsorship you will:

    • Be required to submit an invoice from the organization to the Utah Historical Society. (Receipts, shipping information, or proof of payment will not be accepted as an invoice.)
    • Need to include the UHS logo in marketing materials. 
    • Submit a final impact report (see below) and images no later than four weeks after your event. 

    Timeline

    • Rolling applications are available to submit throughout the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th).
    • Applicants notified of outcome via email on a quarterly basis (July, October, January, and April). The work or event must be completed by June 30th annually.

    Who Can Apply?

    • Non-profit organizations
    • Schools and school districts
    • Municipalities or government agencies
    • Libraries, museums, or community centers

    Funding Is Not Available For:

    • Technology or other similar products (laptop, iPad, smart board, etc.)
    • Activities that take place outside of Utah
    • Teacher or staff professional development/training
    • Salaries or stipends for educators or staff
    • Food, apparel, flights, or lodging
    • The purchasing of alcoholic beverages
    • Venue costs 
    • Indirect (overhead) expenses which may include rent, salaries, construction costs, utilities, etc.
