Rescue Hen Rehome 2025
  • Rescue Hen Rehome 2025

Thank you for saving their little lives 💖
  • Need to know

Commercial hens may be lacking some feathers

They need time to adjust and we recommend at least a week in a secure space to get to know where home is. A free hen straight out of the barn is likely to leg it and not come back

adding new hens to your new flock is always a mixed bag of drama, if you can, try to separate a space for the newbies so they can see eachother but they can't argue. If you have to put them straight in, try to get at least 3 new hens and make sure you have multiple feeders and drinkers to avoid feeder blocking. Provided perches and safe spaces where they can get away from the unwanted pecking order attention

they will be used to layers mash so the transition from farm to family will be a lot easier if you mix a bag in with your normal feed

please bring suitable carriers on rehome day. We prefer dog crates, poultry crates or pet carriers. If you only have boxes, please ensure they are strong with good lids and letterbox style holes about an inch wide in 2 sides. Pen holes will not be acceptable as they will get too hot even for short journeys
