    Reports to: Lead Teacher/Director Job Summary: The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the Lead Teacher in the implementation and supervision of the daily activities and care for young children in a childcare setting. This position requires a passion for working with children, the ability to support their educational and developmental needs, and work as part of a team to create a positive and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities: Supporting Daily Activities: Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and conducting educational activities, including arts and crafts, music, reading, and outdoor play, to foster social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Child Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the classroom, during play, and on field trips. Maintain constant awareness of child behavior and intervene when necessary to manage conflicts or ensure positive interactions. Classroom Management: Help set up and maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom environment. Assist in preparing materials and resources for activities and lessons. One-on-One Support: Provide individual support to children as needed, including offering assistance with tasks such as eating, using the restroom, or during nap time. Behavior Support: Assist in promoting positive behavior by reinforcing good conduct and helping children develop self-regulation skills. Communication with Parents: Communicate effectively with parents about their child's progress, milestones, and concerns. Share important updates and observations during drop-off and pick-up times.

  • Health and Safety: Follow all health and safety protocols, including sanitizing toys and classroom surfaces, ensuring that children are properly hydrated, and managing any first aid needs in case of minor injuries. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other teachers and childcare staff to ensure consistent implementation of the center's curriculum and policies. Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Documentation: Assist in documenting children's progress, behavioral observations, and participation in activities, contributing to child development assessments.

    Must meet DHS Rule 3 Child Care Teacher requirements OR have the desire and ability to complete needed trainings to become teacher qualified. Previous experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, or similar childcare setting is preferred. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow instructions from Lead Teachers and supervisors. Understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate practices. CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain Ability to pass background checks and other relevant screening. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to kneel, bend, and sit on the floor to interact with children. Ability to engage in active play (e.g., running, dancing, jumping, etc with children. Working Conditions: This position requires working in a classroom or daycare setting with groups of children. May require extended hours, evenings, depending on the needs of the childcare center.
