    About the Wisconsin Swimming Athlete Scholarship: 

    Scholarships are awarded to active members of the Wisconsin Swimming LSC who embody Wisconsin Swimming’s mission statement:

    “To champion an inclusive and collaborative swim community supporting members and families by providing opportunities for education, fun, leadership, personal growth and competition.”

    General Information:
    6 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who are active members in the Wisconsin Swimming LSC. Each scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award which will be sent directly to the institution each recipient plans to attend in the fall. Recipients must be well-rounded student athletes who have demonstrated dedication to academics, school, service and other extracurricular activities. Recipients must have demonstrated excellence in leadership, character and sportsmanship.

    Eligibility:
    To be considered for a Wisconsin Swimming Scholarship award, all of the following requirements must be met. All applicants must:

    • be registered members with USA Swimming and WI Swimming who actively participates on their club team; and
    • be student-athletes in good academic standing to become a high school graduate in the current calendar year; and
    • have plans to further their education by attending a four or two year university, college or technical school, no later than the fall of the current year.

    Essays are due by March 31, 2026. Awards will be announced and presented at the annual awards ceremony in April.

  • Essay

    READ ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY and HAVE YOUR DOCUMENT READY TO LOAD.
  • Essays must be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font size.  

    Applicants will be required to submit an original essay of 1,000 words or less that includes the following components:

    • How the applicant has demonstrated leadership, character and sportsmanship in and/or out of the pool.

    • A description of one lesson learned from swimming, with examples of how it has helped when applied both in and/or out of the pool.

    • A description of the applicant’s plans and goals for the future.

    A minimum of 1 letter of recommendation is required, and a maximum of 3 will be accepted
    • The author of the recommendation shall specify the nature of their relationship to the applicant.

    • Recommendations to be considered shall not be authored by family members or teammates.

  • Selection of Award Recipients:

    A selection panel shall be comprised as follows as designated by the LSC General Chair. 

    • 2 LSC Board of Director members
    • 1 community member/parent of a swimming alumnus
    • an LSC state athlete rep (who is not applying for the scholarship), and
    • the Senior Coach of the Year from the prior year.

    Selection Process:

    Applicant names and team/club names will be kept anonymous from the Selection Panel until the recipients have been selected.

    The Panel shall review all valid applications to select Scholarship award nominees.

    Award nominations by the Panel shall be submitted to the LSC Board of Directors for approval.

    To be considered for the current year scholarships, essays with supporting materials must be submitted by March 31, 2026.

     In submitting this application, I hereby certify the following:

    1.     I am in need of this scholarship aid as set forth in this application. 

    2.     I understand that Wisconsin Swimming, Inc. will pay the scholarship funds directly to my educational institution and that only tuition for credit courses and/or campus housing will be paid. 

    3.     I hereby certify that all of the information I have provided within the entire scholarship application is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I understand that if any information submitted with the scholarship application is determined to be false or mislead­ing (including any omission of material information), I will be disqualified from consideration for the scholarship.

    4.    I give consent to allow Wisconsin Swimming, Inc.  to use a photograph (or other likeness), as well as personal information about me (family, name, hometown, etc.), or statements for publicity purposes, which may include, but is not limited to, publication in newsletters and the Wisconsin Swimming website.
