We are thrilled to learn that the workers at Port Townsend’s The Food Co-op have begun the process to become unionized! The co-op has been such a vital part of the community for decades, and we look forward to our continued relationship with a co-op that is not only member-owned, but whose workforce has taken this step to ensure they are represented.

We view this worker-lead effort as a continuation of the democratic principles of our beloved co-op. It is also an opportunity to lean into the stated co-op value of “Integrity,” because if worker member-owners are calling for representation, their voices should be heard.

We have faith co-op leadership will not step in to discourage workers from their legal right to set this process in motion.
