  • CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY

  • Due to the fast-paced nature of our rehearsals and classes at Developing Artists (DA), where we often move swiftly to create and develop our productions, we have implemented a new attendance policy that emphasizes the importance of individual responsibility.

    Policy Statement

We understand that unforeseen circumstances and conflicts may arise, resulting in occasional absences from rehearsals and classes. However, it is essential for each artist to be fully aware of the material covered in their absence and to be prepared to continue seamlessly with the rest of the ensemble.

    Policy Details

    • Attendance: All young artists are expected to attend ALL rehearsals and classes punctually, as scheduled by the artistic team.
    • Communication: Young artists must inform the artistic team and their fellow cast members or classmates in advance of any anticipated absences, whenever possible.
    • Responsibility for Last Minute Missed Rehearsals and Classes: If a young artist is unable to attend a rehearsal or class, it is their responsibility to let Nicole Amaral know personally with both a text at 347-461-2779 and on the ensemble SLACK channel as soon as they (or Guardian) know. They must proactively gather the information and material covered during their absence, as well as to be prepared for subsequent rehearsals or classes.
    • Documentation: It is highly encouraged for young artists to take notes or record rehearsals and classes (where permitted) to assist in their understanding and retention of missed material.
    • Peer Support: Recognizing the interdependence within an ensemble, each young artist should understand that others are relying on their presence and preparedness. Offering assistance and support to those who have missed rehearsals or classes is essential to maintain the integrity and progress of the entire group. If you are in the room, always be an understudy.
    • Respect for Collaborators: As a scene partner or ensemble member, your commitment to attending rehearsals and classes is a testament to your respect for your fellow artists. As scene partners and ensemble members, others are relying on you to be present and prepared so that they can do their work effectively. Your preparedness ensures a cohesive and productive environment, allowing everyone to work together effectively.

    Disciplinary Actions

It is essential for each young artist to understand the consequences of not adhering to this attendance policy. Failure to meet attendance and preparedness expectations may result in being asked to leave the programming or being replaced in a specific piece of the show. These measures are taken to uphold the artistic integrity of the production and ensure the overall success of the ensemble. We ask for your understanding and commitment to this policy, as it is vital for the growth and professional development of all artists involved.

    Collective Understanding and Agreement

By adhering to this attendance policy, we aim to cultivate a culture of reliability, collaboration, and professionalism among our students and performers at Developing Artists. We believe that this approach will foster a safe class environment with strong ensemble dynamics and enable the creation of outstanding performances that reflect the dedication and talent of our ensembles as a whole.
