    SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

  • Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated aims to enhance the quality of life within the  community. Public service, leadership development, and education of the youth are the hallmarks of the organization's programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically. Founded on the precept of education, the organization continues to promote and encourage high scholastic attainment. 

    The Iota Tau Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is offering (1) $500.00 and (2) $1000.00 scholarship opportunities for high school seniors in various areas. All scholarships require the completion of an application and supporting documentation listed below. 

    Requirements:

    • Completed Scholarship Application
    • Acceptance Letter to a Vocational/Technical/Community College or 4 Year College/University
    • High School Transcript (Minimum 2.80 GPA)
    • 1 Letter of Recommendation from a Community Leader (Ex: teacher, pastor, mentor, volunteer organizer, principal, etc.) *Should not be a relative.*
    • Minimum 300 Word Essay on Your Topic of Choice from the List Provided Below
    • ACT or SAT Scores are not required but encouraged to submit

    Project Wee Savers Scholarship (*COMMUNITY COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE ONLY*)
    Focused on continued economic education, Project Wee Savers is a program designed to develop  an awareness of various banking facilities and their available services. The goal of Wee Savers is to allow participants to become knowledgeable about financial responsibility. To encourage financial awareness and aid in collegiate expenses, the Iota Tau Sigma Chapter is offering this scholarship opportunity to all high school seniors. 

    Topic: Discuss at least 2 services banks provide to customers, and in what ways do you feel having these services can help someone’s financial future. 
    Award: $500.00


    Seven Founders’ Scholarship (*4 YEAR UNIVERSITY ONLY*)
    Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was originally founded as an academic sorority for  teachers. In time, the Founders saw a need to open the sorority to women of various career  backgrounds. Though members of the organization vary in career paths, teachers continue to make up the majority of the membership. In honor of our Seven Educators, the Iota Tau Sigma Chapter is offering this scholarship to a future educator. 

    Topic: Write a thank you letter addressed to one of your teachers that has motivated you in wanting to become an educator. 
    Award: $1000.00

    The Essence of Sigma Gamma Rho Scholarship (*4 YEAR UNIVERSITY ONLY*)

    Sigma women, we pride ourselves on our ability to impact and empower women of all ages. We exhibit our motto of “Greater Service, Greater Progress” and “Greater Women, Greater World.”  The purpose of this scholarship is to highlight a young woman who is active in her community and empowering others. She should exhibit ladylike and leadership qualities, as well as be a positive role model. Iota Tau Sigma would like to assist in her academic future by awarding this scholarship. This scholarship is open to all female high school seniors.

    Topic: What are you doing in your community to exhibit “Greater Service, Greater Progress,” and how can being “Greater Women” help shape the “Greater World” you would like to see?
    Award: $1000.00

You will need to submit 1 essay per scholarship topic you are applying for, do so by attaching the documents below.

     

    Recipients will be contacted via email no later than April 13, 2026. Awards will be presented at the NPHC Awards Program on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 3:00 pm located at the Clifton Chenier Center: 220 W Willow St Building A Lafayette, LA 70501.

    *Applications must be submitted by March 30, 2026 11:45pm.
