  • Prior to completing the form overleaf please read and fully understand the following articles from the Club's ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION and By-law 17concerning your status and responsibilities as an Absent Member.

    6.  A Member shall notify the Board of any circumstance which may effect his membership classification whereupon the Board shall meet to decide whether such Member's classification of Membership should be changed. The Board may hold such a meeting on its own volition and in that event it shall give to the Member concerned not less than 14 days' notice in writing of its intention to review that Member's classification of Membership. The Member shall be entitled to appear before the Board at any such meeting or adjourned meeting and may make such representations as he thinks fit. (Article 6)

    26.  A Member of more than 1 year's standing who may be leaving Hong Kong for three or more consecutive months, provided he previously shall have given notice to the Club in writing that he desires to have his name placed upon the list of Absent members, and provided that he pays an Absent Member fee, shall not be liable to pay his monthly subscription for the time he is absent from Hong Kong. (Article 26)

    27.  Absent Members shall pay an Absent Member fee, the amount of which shall be determined by the Board. Immediately upon their return to Hong Kong they shall be liable for the usual monthly subscription including the month when such Absent Member returns. (Article 27)

    60.  Notwithstanding anything contained in Article 55, the Board may at any time as it sees fit, present for payment to any Member his account, and if the person concerned fails to pay such account within thirty days of presentation of such account, he shall ipso facto cease to be a Member of the Club. (Article 60)

    By-Law 17

    a.  An Absent Member is a former Active Member of the Club who is currently residing outside of Hong Kong and applied for and was granted Absent Membership status by the Board of Governors.

    b.  When visiting Hong Kong, an Absent Member is allowed to use the Club's facilities without paying the monthly subscription for a maximum period of two weeks, not more than three times per year (that is up to six weeks per calendar year If an Absent Member has used up these three visits, they can apply for a 7-day use of the club, up to a maximum four times in a calendar year (that is 28 days maximum These 7-day periods can be used separately or contiguously and shall be charged at a rate equal to one quarter of the prevailing monthly subscription fee. An Absent member who wants to use the club for a longer period than is permitted by these rules must reactivate his/her membership and will be charged the monthly fee immediately.

    c.  An Absent Member wishing to use the Club during a visit to Hong Kong shall, wherever possible, give written notice to the Club not least three open days prior to their visit, specifying the duration of stay and their current billing address. Failure to do this may result in a delayed reactivation of their usage rights during this period.

    d.  On their first temporary visit to the Club and before commencing to use the Club, an Absent Member should go to Reception to either provide a credit card imprint deposit (Visa or Master Card only) or purchase a fixed or stored value card. Therefore Absent members must make sure their first visit takes place when the club reception is open.

    e.  When using a credit card imprint deposit an Absent Member should ensure that their bill is settled on their last visit to the Club prior to leaving Hong Kong.

    f.  An Absent Member returning to live in Hong Kong should resume Active Membership immediately and shall be liable for the usual monthly subscription, including the month when the Absent Member returns. As soon as full membership is reactivated, the absent status is cancelled.

    g.  Every time an Active Member is granted Absent Member status, a fee of HK$2,000 will be levied.

    h.  An Absent Member shall notify the Club of any changes in personal particulars including change of address. Failure to update the Club of these changes may result in the loss of Absent Membership without notification.

    i.  Any action taken by the Board of Governors in relation to Absent Memberships is wholly at its discretion and final.

(THE BOARD RESOLVED AS OF NOVEMBER 16, 2019)

    SUBSCRIPTION FEES FOR ACCOUNTS WITH ONLY ONE CARD WILL INCREASE BY HK$75 TO HK$1,375 PER MONTH. MONTHLY SUBS FOR ACCOUNTS WITH A SPOUSE MEMBER WILL INCREASE BY HK$100 TO HK$1,400 PER MONTH. (THE BOARD RESOLVED AS OF FEBRUARY 1, 2025)
