  • Teacher Responsibility

  • My goal is to inspire a love for music in each student by fostering an encouraging and enjoyable atmosphere. I focus on nurturing each student's unique talents and abilities through engaging games and activities, allowing them to learn and grow at their own pace. Since every student learns differently, I carefully observe their individual learning styles to create a personalized and effective learning experience!

  • Piano Lesson Content

  • Weekly 30-minute piano lessons focus on fostering musical creativity through listening, composition, theory, lead sheet playing, sight-reading, and an introduction to music literature. Each lesson is tailored to the individual student’s goals and interests.

Students are responsible for purchasing and bringing their own piano books to each lesson.

  • Lesson Attendance and Commitment

  • Consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in a student's musical growth. Attendance and home practice help students make steady progress and get the most value from their lessons. When enrolling in lessons, families are making a commitment to attend weekly lessons and arrive on time prepared to learn.

    • Students are expected to attend their scheduled weekly lesson throughout the school year.
    • Please do not show up more than 5 minutes early to your lesson time or be more than 5 minutes late to pick up your student as it often distracts the students before/after.
    • If a student will be absent, please notify the studio as soon as possible.
    • Frequent absences can significantly hinder progress and may result in the continued enrollment being reevaluated.
    • Tuition reserves a specific lesson time each week and is not based on the number of lessons attended.
    • Families who anticipate extended absences should communicate with the teacher in advance to discuss available options.

I value each student's place in the studio and strive to provide a consistent learning environment. Your commitment to regular attendance helps ensure the best experience and progress for everyone.

  • Practice

  • Consistent at-home practice is essential for progress and long-term musical growth. While each student learns at their own pace, I aim to provide a customized learning experience that fits their individual needs, goals, and lifestyle.

Practice expectations will be discussed during the first few lessons and are adjusted based on age, level, and schedule. Students are expected to come prepared each week, having spent time reviewing and practicing their assigned material.

To help guide their progress, I provide lesson sheets that must be brought to every lesson.

As a teacher dedicated to working with motivated students, I reserve the right to discontinue lessons if there is a consistent lack of commitment to practice.

  • Tuition and Billing:

  • Tuition is not charged per lesson, but reflects the full value of enrollment, which includes:

    • Weekly 30-minute private lessons personalized to each student’s learning style and goals
    • Teacher planning time and professional development
    • Stickers, rewards, and occasional gifts
    • Two recitals per year (includes preparation, printed programs, and room reservations)
    • Studio expenses such as copying, piano tuning, digital tools, and maintenance

    Monthly Payment Options:

    • 30 Minute Lessons: $100/month

Tuition is divided evenly across the year, so your monthly rate stays the same regardless of how many lessons fall in a given month. Payment is due by the 1st of the month with a $25 late fee after the 8th.

Registration Fee: A one-time $25 registration fee is required for new students to reserve a lesson time and is due upon signing up.

    Accepted Payment Methods:
Cash, check (payable to Karissa Spencer), or online via Zelle or Venmo.

  • Summer Piano Lessons:

  • Piano lessons June-August have two options for summer lessons:

    • Continue weekly lessons similar to the school year
    • 8-week punch pass to be used during June-August. Let me know by the end of May which weeks you would like to schedule

I will also have morning slots available in the summer for those that are interested. Parents will need to notify me know what they would like to do before May (I will send out a reminder email).

  • Missed Lessons, Make Ups, and Refunds:

    • If you cannot make your regular lesson time, you are welcome to switch into one of my open lesson spots that week with 24 hours notice. You may also reach out to another family to swap times. I send out an updated schedule at the start of each semester and directory for those interested in switching.
    • If a student arrives late to their 30-minute lesson, the lesson will still end at the scheduled time and full payment is required.
    • Missed lessons are non-refundable, and makeup lessons are not offered for student absences.
    • In the case of illness, an online lesson (via zoom) may be offered during the student’s regular lesson time. Please provide at least 2 hours’ notice so I can prepare for the format. Without sufficient notice, an online option may not be available.
    • In the event of bad weather, lessons will be moved online during the usual lesson time. I follow Davis County School District closures and will contact you the morning of your lesson if a switch to online is necessary.
    • If you choose to discontinue lessons, any payments already made are non-refundable.
    • It is the responsibility of the parent or student to notify me as soon as possible if a lesson cannot be attended.
  • Media Release:

  • Photos and videos taken during lessons, studio events, or performances may be shared on Karissa's Keys social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) or used for promotional materials.

If you prefer that your child not be included in any photos or videos, please let me know in writing (email is fine) to opt out. I’m always happy to respect your family’s preferences.

I have read, understood, and agree to the piano lesson policies outlined above. I understand that tuition is due by the 1st of each month and that timely payment reserves my child’s lesson spot. If payments are missed for three consecutive weeks without communication, I understand that my child’s lesson spot may be offered to a student on the studio waitlist.
