FUSA promotes and advances the rights, interests and welfare of students. One way we do this is by providing grants to help students pursue opportunities that sit outside of the formal curriculum. FUSA Development Grants can be put towards the cost of participating in an activity that focuses on professional development related to your field of study or that helps develop student leadership at Flinders University.

FUSA Development Grants are not for costs related to your degree or any activity that receives academic credit – for example, placements. FUSA Development Grants are also not financial hardship grants. If you are experiencing financial hardship you are able to contact the FUSA Financial Counsellor to discuss options (including Financial Support Grants). 

The maximum amount a person can receive is $750. Applications close at 11.59pm on 3 April.

Please read through the Guidelines to check if the Development Grant apply to your proposal.

When you apply you will be asked to provide:

1. Your personal details.

2. Details about the activity.

• A description of the activity that the Development Grant will fund.
• An explanation of how the activity will is linked to your professional development in your area of study or your development as a student leader.

3. The budget and evidence of costs.

• A budget with estimated costs.
• Alternative funding sources (if available).

You are not eligible to receive more than one grant in a calendar year.

Applications are assessed on:

• How well the activity matches the eligibility criteria.
• The merit or benefit of the activity to your professioanl or personal development.
• The quality of your application.

Be mindful if you are using ChatGPT in drafting your application. In our experience, ChatGPT generated responses alone lack detail when addressing the merits of the activity and its link to professional or personal development.

If you apply, FUSA will aim to let you know the outcome within two weeks of the close of applications.

Grants cannot be used for:

• Activities that count towards completing your degree including compulsory internships, field trips and placements.
• Course-related costs.
• Sporting competitions or events.
• Political Party events or activities.
• Costs associated with an exchange program.
• General research costs (specific online events/activities may be considered).
• Qualifications above Level 2 on the Australian Qualifications Framework (Certificate II).
• Any activity that cannot be funded by the Student Services and Amenities Fee.

Please provide an itemised budget showing the total cost of the activity (for example, travel costs and registration costs) to demonstrate how the grant will be used if succesful.
