2025 Mediated Minds Proposal Submission

Use the following form to submit your proposal for the 2025 Mediated Minds Conference. You will need to include details about the type of presentation, the research you have done for the presentation, what inspired you to research this topic, and some other related areas.

Presentation Details

Listed below are the types of presentations that are expected and welcome at Mediated Minds. Please review and then indicate what format you have chosen to present your research in.

Primary Types of Presentations

• Individual oral presentation - This is the most traditional conference presentation. You should plan to deliver a prepared presentation using note cards.

• Poster presentation - A trifold poster is preferred/strongly encouraged since there is no space or resources for the hanging of posters. Posters will be placed on tables.You will need to provide your own poster. 36” x 48” tri-fold display boards are preferred. A maximum of two students involved in the project will be allowed to stand by their poster at a time.

Additional Types of Presentations

• Panel discussion - involves a group of people gathered to discuss a set topic led by moderator who guides the discussion and elicits audience questions

• Digital poster/multimedia project - any media research project that use several types of media, such as sound and full-motion video in computer applications. You will need to provide your own laptop to display the digital poster. Laptops are available for checkout from the library.

• Paper or essay reading

• Short story and/or poetry readings

• Presentation of visual creative work (could be displayed during the poster session or as an oral presentation reflecting on the development and purpose of the project)

• Orother creative or scholarly work

Presentation Title  *

Your presentation title should state the key idea or main point of your presentation in a single, short sentence fragment. The title should accurately summarize the work, clearly outline your presentation, and set proper expectations. 

What is the thesis of your presentation?  *

Write your thesis using this format:
In this presentation, I will explain / explore / demonstrate / report / etc. (pick one) the _________________ (insert the nature of your research findings) through __________________ (insert how you will do this: images, discussion of a certain type of study you conducted, a critical/theoretical lens you used, analysis of data, etc.).

Note: This might be one sentence or more than one sentence, but you need to convey the thesis of your project in a clear manner.

Summary Sentences  *

Please write three to four sentences that captures the focus and meaning of the research you have gathered and the conclusions you have discovered from your analysis of the research. Summary sentences are usually found in your conclusion.

Research Information

Please provide some additional details about your presentation by answering the questions below. 

What were the methods of your research?  *

Types of research methods include, but at not limited to, the following: archival research, case studies, content analyses, experiments, field experiment, interviews, library research for literature reviews, observational studies, surveys, and so on. If your proposal is for a creative project, please indicate that.

What equipment will you need for your presentation?  *

Will you use visuals or video? Will you need internet connectivity or A/V equipment? Please note the following information contained in the next few sentences. For poster presentations, your need to provide your own poster. For digital posters/multimedia projects, you will need to provide your own laptop. For all oral presentations, there is a PC you can use for visual slides as well as a clicker and projector with audio capabilities. Walters Hall (where Mediated Minds is held) has Internet connectivity through UC_Secure.

Session Availability

Please note your availability for each time frame below. Actual presentation time cannot be guaranteed. The two poster presentations are typically held from 10:10 am to 11:05 am (Session 1) and 11:15 am to 12:10 pm (Session 2).

If this project is connected to a particular course, please provide the name of the instructor in that course, their email, and the course number and name. If this project is not connected to a particular course, just leave the fields blank.

Permission for Proceedings Publication:

Mediated Minds includes proceedings to the annual conference. Conference proceedings are collections of academic proposals and papers that serve as written record of the work that will be presented at the conference. The benefit for you is that this permanent record of your work that can be linked to an online portfolio or website and included in a résumé.

This portion of the form indicates your permission to contribute to Scholar@UC, the UC digital repository, the content you have submitted or presented in connection with the Mediated Minds Conference, April 16, 2025, at the University of Cincinnati. You retain copyright, and you may share your work with additional sites. To participate at Mediated Minds, you are not required to contribute to the proceedings, but we would appreciate your agreement and encourage your participation in this endeavor.

Creative Commons License 

The submitter of your content will assign a Creative Commons license to your work. You agree that a Creative Commons Attribution—NonCommercial license can be attached to your submission when distributed by University of Cincinnati on the internet, meaning that your submission can be copied and distributed only for non-commercial use, may not be modified, and that all such use must give you credit as the original author.
 

To have your work considered for publication in the Mediated Minds conference proceedings, please submit a 200-400 word abstract (see example abstracts cited in this document).
