• 2026 GOLD COAST BASKETBALL REPRESENTATIVE COACH APPLICATION U12 TEAMS

  • Welcome to the Gold Coast Basketball application portal for a position as a Gold Coast Basketball Representative Coach/Assistant Coach.

    Note that our process for team selection has changed moving forward.

    All players wanting to trial for a Gold Coast Basketball Representative team must attend our Rep Trials, which will be conducted on the following dates at GCSLC from 8.00am-10.00am.

    Session 1 - February 15th and 22nd (open trials) A cut to be made after these two session.

    Session 2 - March 8th, and 15th (invitation only) A cut will be made after these two sessions.

    Session 3 Combine Day - March 22nd, 8am till 12pm (invitation only) players invited to this day are guarenteed a position in one of our representative teams. The Combine Day will include parent education, uniform fittings and final team allocations.

  • Head Coach Selection Criteria

    • Must attend Gold Coast Basketball coach development sessions and adopt the Gold Coast Basketball Style of play. 
    • Possess or be willing to obtain Level 1 coaching accreditation.
    • Possess previous coaching experience or basketball experience at a level that suggests you will be capable of providing quality coaching to the relevant age group.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership for the team (staff and athletes), including organisation, planning and disciplinary requirements.
    • Demonstrated understanding and ability to communicate appropriately in the coordination of selections, preparation, competition and post-competition phases of the season.
    • Be knowledgeable of current coaching trends and have a desire for continuous improvement of your coaching skills.
    • Must hold a current Bluecard
    • Complete the Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport portal.

    • Ability to attend and coach at all rep skills sessions, trainings and tournaments.
    • Must attend Rep Trials, if you don't have a child participating in the trials. If you do have a child trialling, you must attend the Combine Day.
  • Assistant Coach Selection Criteria

    • Must attend Gold Coast Basketball coach development sessions, and adopt the Gold Coast Basketball Style of play.
    • Possess or be willing to obtain Level 1 club coaching accreditation.
    • Must hold a current Bluecard
    • Complete the Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport portal.

    • Display a positive attitude.
    • Display ability to work with and under the direction, leadership and guidance of the Head Coach, Coaching Coordinator’s and Development Manager.
    • Have ambitions to continue your coaching development, and move towards Head Coaching in the future.
    • Must attend Rep Trials, if you don't have a child participating in the trials. If you do have a child trialling, you must attend the Combine Day.
  • Coaching Accreditation

  • To hold a Gold Coast Representative coaching position you must hold a level 1 coaching certificate (at a minimum) or attend the level 1 club coaches course to become accredited.  Gold Coast Basketball will hold a level 1 coaches course through out the year.

  • Team training to commence from 20th April (2 x 90 minute sessions a week)

    Grading games between 16th May and 14th June.

    Season start and end dates of 21st June till 13th September (break during June / July school holidays)

    State Champs for both boys and girls will be at Northside Wizards between Sept 24th to 27th 2026. 

  • Terms and Conditions

    1. To be considered for a position, each Coach and Assistant MUST have or agree to attain the level one coaches accreditation before the rep season commences; Gold Coast will meet the cost associated with this, and coaches must be available for all rep trials on the following dates.
    2. Coaches related to players that are participating in the trials will not be required to attend the trials (sessions 1 & 2). They will be invited to attend session 3 - Combine Day where the final team selections will be made.
    3. All appointed coaches, who don't have children trialling, immediately become a part of the selection panel for all teams in that age group/gender; therefore, they are responsible for assisting in selecting all teams. 
    4. Gold Coast Basketball has implemented coaching policies for all age groups, as a Gold Coast coach you must agree to implement the training/playing guidelines as outlined by the Basketball Development Manager (These will be discussed at the interview stage and includes GC Basketball Style of Play).
    5. All coaching positions are held on a volunteer basis. Gold Coast Basketball retains the right to remove coaches that are not acceptable in the view of the basketball development officer.
