Petition in Opposition to Total Wine & More Locating in Friendship Heights
We, the undersigned, oppose Total Wine & More’s license application (ABRA-130474) to open a big-box liquor store at the former Mazza Gallerie location in Friendship Heights, and urge the District of Columbia’s government and relevant decision-makers to reject the proposed license application for the following reasons:

•   A 20,000 square foot megastore will disturb the peace, order and quiet of the neighborhood and disrupt the thoughtful development that Friendship Heights deserves.

•   Public safety will be threatened by the severe traffic and parking congestion that such a large store would bring, thereby undermining the sought-after goal of promoting positive gathering spaces for families and children.

•   The big-box store is inconsistent with the planned residential development of Friendship Heights and the Wisconsin Avenue corridor.

•   The viability of small local businesses that are integral to the character of our community would be threatened.

We call on ABCA and the DC government to reject the Total Wine & More application.
