In-shelter volunteers work directly with animals in both the Redwood City and Palo Alto shelters in a variety of roles: providing exercise and socialization, introducing pets to potential adopters, helping prep for surgery in the vet clinic, cleaning and caring for the pets, and more.

We have three recruitment periods each year. The application opens for two weeks at the beginning of February, June, and October.

Please note that we are not able to bring on new volunteers outside of these recruitment periods.

The minimum age for volunteering in the shelter is 16 years old.

The application for Weekly In-Shelter volunteerings is opens for two weeks at the beginning of February, June, and October. The application gives you the opportunity to tell us your preferred location (Redwood City or Palo Alto), preferred shifts and preffered roles.

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering as a group! At this time, we don't have any opportunities for group volunteering. You can send in your information through our interest form to be put on a list and we will reach out to you when we have new group opportunities. 

Groups can also get involved by hosting fundraisers, pet food supply drives, or making blankets for the shelter animals!

Children 12 years and older can volunteer as Office Admin volunteers!

Younger children can still get involved with an adult through our Doggy Day Out program and Animal Ambulance program.
