This scholarship celebrates the life and legacy of our devoted brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc John "Jay" Jones. Jay was from East St. Louis, MO and served his country with dignity for 26 years while, retiring as a Sergeant First Class (SFC Jay was a Past Master of the 33rd degree and an active Freemasonry. Jay steadfast commitment to community service was truly inspiring. He was a certified advisor to the youth affiliated Sigma Beta Club and mentored young men to be productive individuals. Jay's guidance taught youth the importance of community service and setting the example. Jay's life exemplified a deep commitment to scholarship, service, and the positive transformation of others. He always upheld the values of lifelong learning, selflessness, and giving back to make someone else life better.
PURPOSE
The scholarship will be awarded to a male high school senior who is dedicated to academic excellence, passionate about serving others, and actively contributing to the community.
AWARD
The winner will be selected based on submitting all required documentation and interview. His overall package will be judged by the scholarship committee. Scholarship recipients will be notified by email, mail, or phone.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicant must be a male high school graduating senior.
- Applicant must plan to pursue post high school studies (2-or 4-year College/University or Technical/Trade school).
- Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicant must be active in the community or other organizations.
- Applicant must be a high schooler within the Central Texas Area.
APPLY
The scholarship application must be received by 5pm on Friday, April 16, 2025. All submissions received after April 16, 2025 will be disqualified or not considered. Scholarship will be awarded for the Fall 2025 semester and all funds will be paid directly to the institution.
