• ORIOLE COMMUNITY GARDEN RULES (2025)

    This is an online PRE-REGISTRATION. Once all your information is reviewed, you will receive an invitation to participate in the virtual lottery draw and a mandatory orientation session.
  • FOLLOWING THESE RULES IS IMPORTANT FOR MAINTAINING A SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL GARDEN.

    ORIOLE FOOD SPACE (OFS) RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REMOVE GARDEN PLOTS FROM ANHYONE WHO FAILS TO FOLLOW THESE RULES, AFTER TWO WARNINGS.

  • 1. Gardening at the Oriole Community Garden (OFS) is at the gardeners' own risk. Minors are the responsibility of their parents, legal guardians or adult companions at all times. Gardeners take responsibility for all risks to, and conduct of, any minor children in their care while they are in the garden*
  • 2. A lottery will be run to allocate the plots and to make we are fair to everyone*
  • 3. Clean up after yourself. Weeds go in brown yard waste bags. Garbage goes into the garbage bin. Do not leave your weeds next to your garden.*
  • 4. OFS’ staff needs to reach you out easily. Please monitor your email, confirm you are receiving OFS emails, and take the time to respond ASAP if it is asked.*
  • 5. Each gardener is encouraged to bring their own tools, seeds, compost, etc.*
  • 6. It is gardeners’ responsibility to keep one (1) foot around gardens trimmed and weed-free.*
  • 7. Do not use any stone/plastic/wood in your plot. The only thing you may have in your plot (other than plants) are support cages for tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and other climbing plants.*
  • 8. Do not take anything from other garden plots.*
  • 9. Do not leave garden knives or other tools in the garden—they can be dangerous for the lawnmowers.*
  • 10. One garden per household/family. Many other families are on the waiting list.*
  • 11. Turn off the water when you are done, to help the planet and garden water bill.*
  • 12. Do not litter and please take your trash with you to your building.*
  • 13. All gardens must be cleaned by October 6th, 2025. You must remove all tall plants, and put weeds in yard waste bags. The water will be closed on October 4th, 2025.*
  • 14. You may contact the garden coordinator (Manzura) if you have grown more food than you can use. They will take these crops and give them to others in need (such as food banks) in the community*
  • 15. You can bring your pet to the garden and keep it, all the time, by your side on a leash of not more than one meter. Make sure that your pet is not stepping in others plots.*

    • Assist others in need
    • Avoid offensive language
    • Adhere to all rules, policies, and guidelines
    • Engage in activities and behaviour that does not jeopardize gardener's safety
    • Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated

  • How did you hear about the Oriole Community Garden?*

  • Permission will be granted to the above-named Gardener to have a plot of land for no more than 3 years (however registration is required every year and you will be assigned a different plot number every year).

    1. This permit allows me to use PLOT #_______ I am not allowed to transfer this plot to someone else.
    2. I am aware that I am registering for a community garden plot and if my plot is not maintained, I will be contacted and asked to clean it up. I understand that if I do not make any changes within 1 week after I have been contacted, or I do not contact garden staff, my plot will be given to someone else on the waiting list.
    3. This permit is valid from the beginning to the end of the season for 3 consecutive years, but the plot number will change every year. (lottery system). Everything belonging to me must be removed from this plot before the season ends.
    4. My plot will be planted during the first week of the opening and will remain planted all summer long.
    5. If I am unable to continue gardening or have trouble coming to the garden regularly or need help, I will contact the garden staff who will help me the best they can.
    6. This is a chemical-free garden and I will only use organic fertilizers and insecticides if needed.
    7. I will volunteer my time for general maintenance to keep the garden site clean.
    8. I will clean weeds and plant materials separately, and I will keep my plot and paths free of trash and litter.
    9. I will participate at the end of the season clean up and attend garden clean up days or complete cleanup tasks.
    10. I will pick only my own crops unless someone else allows me to pick crops from their plot.
    11. This contract is valid for one season to be renewed next spring.
