Metropolitan Market
Better Staffing Better Stores
We, the workers of Metropolitan Market, take pride in the work we do every day, delivering high levels of guest service, quality food to our communities, while working every day to make the company successful. We are skilled and dedicated workers who are devoted to sustaining the neighborhoods we live and work in. We believe that for the company to be successful, for customers to have the best hospitality when shopping, for our fellow workers to provide the exemplary level of service, and for us to have better stores, we need better staffing.
We Demand! Better staffing, with minimum staffing levels by department, to improve customer experience to ensure the work is done safely. Better staffing not only helps create a better customer experience, which helps Metropolitan Market be more successful, it reduces the potential workplace injuries, burnout and high turnover.
We Demand! Self-Check Out ratios to ensure that workers can adequately manage each self-checkout bank safely out with a prohibition of age restricted items. When self-checkout is understaffed, it creates safety, theft and customer service issues.
We Demand! Retention pay for workers who remain on staff for 3 years or more through stock grants, profit sharing or other distributions annually beginning on the third year of employment. Making sure that workers that are hired have an incentive to stay at the company and are invested in the success of Metropolitan Market.
We Demand! Longevity pay for all long-term workers. Long-term workers have a higher level of skill and experience that benefits the company and should be rewarded for their knowledge and expertise.
We Demand! A guaranteed 32 hours per week minimum with at least 50% of all shifts offered at 8 hours in length. As workers committed to the success of the company and the experience of our customers, we deserve full-time work and the ability to work 8-hour shifts so we can earn a living and support ourselves.
We Demand! Dedicated training hours for all employees upon hire and annually for continued training and opportunities for additional training and career growth. Plus, access to all standard operating procedures for each job and department. Having all clerks cross-trained in key job functions will allow us to better support our coworkers and customers, with clear expectations for all jobs as assigned.
