BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Alpha Educational Fund (AEF) of San Antonio (SA), Inc. is a private, non-profit organization founded by the members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Delta Rho Lambda Chapter. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the oldest historically Black Greek Letter organization and is dedicated to Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Service to All Mankind. Our Alpha Educational Fund awards financial assistance to deserving college-bound students.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be a Black/African American student who graduated or will graduate from an accredited high school in the school year 2024-2025, or a current, full-time, Black/African American undergraduate college student. Additionally, applicants must have lived in Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, or Wilson County while attending high school, and currently have a minimum GPA of 3.0 points on a 4.0 scale.

The completed application must be completed by March 31st, 2025 11:59m.
NOTE: Incomplete application packages will not be accepted. The application package must include the following:
- 2025 Black & Gold Scholarship App for Alpha Educational Fund Financial Assistance
- High school/college transcript and current semester schedule
- ACT and SAT scores, if available (High School Students only)
- A recent headshot photograph of the student.
- At least two Letters of Recommendation (Counselor/Teacher/Principal and Community Leader); Maximum of 5 (More letters = More points)
- Essay must be typed on 8.5” x 11” paper, double-spaced, 12-font, Times New Roman, with 1” margins, and not to exceed two pages
- List, Description, and Hours Worked Within Extracurricular Activities (STUCO, Band/Choir/Theater, NHS, Athletics, JROTC, DECA, etc.)
- List of Community Service/ Activities (Job, Church, NSBE, Food Bank, Scouts, Jack & Jill, etc.)

- -G.E.N.T. Must have participated in 70% of G.E.N.T.S. activities
- • Vertner Woodson Tandy Award (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Legacy Students)
- Father/Guardian Must Have Been Financially Active In a Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. For The Previous Two (2) fraternal years
- Father/Guardian Must Have Participated in 50% of the local Delta Rho Lambda Chapter Activities Within the Previous Fraternal Year (Mtgs Included)
• Eugene Kinckle Jones Award (Undergraduate Students) - College Freshmen May Submit Information From High School Senior Year
• A. Maceo Smith Award (Highest Average For All Categories Combined; HS only)
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Applications will be screened, verified, and evaluated for completeness. A financial selection committee will evaluate/rate the content of each application. The committee will consider Academic Achievement, Community Service/Activities, Quality and Content of Essay, Letters of Recommendation, and School Involvement. Each applicant may only win one scholarship award, except the winner of the A. Maceo Smith Award may earn a total of two awards. Previous winners may not earn awards in consecutive years.
NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE: Selectees will receive a notice of results from the organization via email.
AWARD PAYMENT CERTIFICATION: Upon completion of enrollment, the student or school registrar must send enrollment verification and curriculum to SCHOLARSHIPTEAM@DRL1949.com. When the required verification is received, the award payment will be made directly to the student or parent.
AWARD PAYMENT LIMITATION: All financial awards will be paid within six months of selection notification.
