HOF Nomination Form Class of 2026 Logo
  • New York State Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame

The NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame is organized as a means of recognizing, preserving, and promoting the heritage of interscholastic sports in New York State. Many individuals have made extraordinary contributions and have had superb accomplishments in high school sports. The NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame honors the contributions and accomplishments of these individuals who are worthy of statewide recognition.
  • Currently accepting applications for the Class of 2026. Deadline to submit is January 29, 2026.

  • Criteria for Nomination:

Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character.

The categories of athlete, coach, contest official, administrator, and related contributor are included on the nomination form for expediency in understanding the primary area in which an individual is to be considered for his or her achievements in interscholastic athletics.

All candidates for the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame must be at least 35 years of age prior to January 29th of the applicable year in order to be considered for induction. All nominees will be judged on their significant and/or long term achievements, merits, and contributions to interscholastic athletics when determining credentials for the Hall of Fame.

Candidates whose careers ended 50 or more years ago or are deceased will be considered against the accomplishments of their contemporaries as much as possible. In this case, it is imperative to provide strong additional support material such as letters from individuals who had some involvement with the nominee.

While many have served their section and local programs over a long and distinguished career, their accomplishments must have been worthy of statewide recognition for them to be considered. Longevity, without meaningful statewide impact, does not constitute appropriate credentials for NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame consideration.

  • Instructions:

Nomination materials should only be submitted through this form. Printed materials and hard copy items sent to the office will not be considered. If you have questions about how to submit information, contact Joe Altieri at altieri@nysphsaa.org.

The form must be completed by the deadline for the candidate to be considered in the next induction class. Once the completed nomination form is submitted, all actions necessary to the selection process shall remain confidential. All information submitted will be retained by the NYSPHSAA.

Nominations will be reviewed to determine if they met the submission criteria. If they are incomplete, they will be withdrawn and the nominator will be notified. If they are deemed complete, they are eligible to be reviewed by the Screening Committee. The Screening Committee will rate each candidate, then top scoring candidates will advance to be reviewed by the Selection Committee. If a candidate is nominated for multiple categories then each category will be evaulated separately. The Selection Committee will rate the “finalists” which will be the final determination for which six inductees will go forward for induction. Inductees will be announced by May 7th each year and inducted at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet in July.

Nominees for the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame that are not approved but sent on to the Selection Committee, will be reconsidered for the following two years. In that case, nominators are encouraged to submit additional information to enhance the nominee's application. Additional information should be submitted by the following year's Hall of Fame deadline.

Your submission must include the following items in order to be accepted:

    Letters of Recommendation:
A completed nomination form should be accompanied by letters of recommendation from the nominator, the respective NYSPHSAA section, and other appropriate individuals. In cases where other support material is difficult to obtain, additional letters may be included in order to substantiate the individual’s accomplishments or contributions. Letters of recommendation for other awards or honors should not be used as a substitute for this requirement.

    Support Material:
Not including a section recommendation letter, a minimum of five (5) support items including newspaper clippings, letters, magazine articles, copies of scorebooks and statistics, etc. are required to be included to help substantiate the accomplishments and contributions of the nominee. These materials should focus on the individual’s accomplishments and contributions listed in chronological order. Listings of accomplishments will not be accepted unless their are no clippings, articles, or letters available on the candidate.

    Photograph:
A photograph may be submitted but is not required. This will be used for press releases and Hall of Fame materials should the candidate be selected.
