Dear State Representative,*

I am writing to express my deep concerns about Senate Bill 2 and as your constituent, I urge you to vote against its passage. This bill proposes a school voucher program that would divert public funds—an estimated $1 billion over two years—from already underfunded public schools to subsidize private education. Texas public schools serve over 5.5 million children and are struggling with severe financial challenges, often forced to cut staff and resources. Redirecting these vital funds will further strain public schools, leaving the majority of Texas students in more dire conditions and widening the gap in access to quality education. Public schools are the bedrock of our communities, and their ability to provide equitable education opportunities should not be sacrificed.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Additionally, SB 2 lacks sufficient accountability measures for private schools receiving taxpayer dollars. Unlike public schools, private institutions are not held to the same oversight standards, particularly regarding standardized testing and services for students with disabilities. This creates a two-tiered system where public schools face strict accountability while private schools operate with minimal transparency, leaving students and families vulnerable. Furthermore, the proposed voucher amounts are insufficient to cover the full cost of private education, putting low-income families at a disadvantage and exacerbating educational inequities. Texas should prioritize strengthening its public education system, not undermining it with initiatives that fail to serve the majority of its students. I respectfully urge you to consider these impacts and vote no on Senate Bill 2.
