  • Dear Scholarship Applicant: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Theta Chi Omega Chapter is pleased to offer scholarships to high school students residing in Kent County.  The scholarship offer is also extended to college students with a Michigan residence, but attending any college or university. We invite eligible students to complete this application no later than Sunday, April 6th, 2025, by 11:59 pm.


         Levels of Awards:     

    • High School Students 9th-11th:  Tuition support of $250 minimum for summer academic, music, technology, arts, educational travel programs/camps.
    • Graduating High School Seniors: Up to $1,500
    • College Students: Up to $1,500

         Eligibility     

    • 9th-12th grade students residing in Kent County with a min. 2.75 cumulative GPA.
    • Evidence of contribution to the school/community
    • Acceptance to a tuition-based academic/arts/travel summer program (9th-11th grade); Acceptance to a 2-year, 4-year college or university or career and technical education program (graduating senior), or enlistment in a branch of the military.
    • College applicants must submit a Fall 2025 semester schedule (full time status as defined by the attending college/university), and a current transcript indicating a minimum 3.0 GPA.

         Required Materials Checklist:     

    • Completed application
    • High school transcript / college transcript 
    • A copy of your acceptance to higher education institution/summer academic or arts program brochure (high school)
    • College/university full-time course schedule for Fall 2025  (as defined by the attending institution)
    • A typed essay of no more than 750 words on the prompt below

         Prompt:     

    Self-improvement is a lifelong journey that involves growth, learning, and the courage to face challenges. In your essay, describe a time in your life when you actively worked to improve yourself. This could relate to your academic performance, personal skills, emotional intelligence, or any area where you sought to become a better version of yourself.

    • What motivated you to make this change?
    • What specific actions did you take to improve?
    • How did these efforts impact your life and future goals?
    • What lessons did you learn throughout the process, and how will you apply them moving forward?

    Please reflect on your personal journey, the obstacles you faced, and how you plan to continue striving for self-improvement in the future. Your essay should be no more than 750 words.
