The Leisure Services Department may authorize co-sponsorship of events and activities in partnership with non-profit organizations that provide recreational, cultural, or community services. Co-sponsored events must align with the Department’s mission, be open to the public, and provide a clear community benefit.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for co-sponsorship, the applicant must:
- Be a non-profit organization with a mission that aligns with the City’s recreational, cultural, or community priorities.
- Ensure that membership and participation are open to the public and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, religion, disability, veteran status, marital status, medical condition, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other protected category.
- Offer an event that is free for public entry (no general admission fees).
- Ensure that fundraising is not the primary purpose of the event. Sale of goods or services may be permitted if proceeds are dedicated to a recreational purpose.
Application Process
- Applications must be submitted at least 90 days before the event date.
- If the event requires a City special event permit, the applicant will be directed to the City’s Special Event Application process.
- The Leisure Services Department will review applications to confirm that the event meets all policy criteria.
- The event provides a public recreational or cultural benefit.
- The City has sufficient resources to support the event.
- The event is in compliance with all applicable City, state, and federal laws.
- The requested park/facility is available and does not conflict with existing uses.
- The event is not political in nature, and funds raised do not support political activity or a political action committee.
Important Notes
- Approved co-sponsored events are exempt from Leisure Services Department rental fees, but costs for permits, personnel, or services from other City departments are not waived.
- The applicant, including any subcontractors or vendors, must provide proof of public liability and property damage insurance at least 30 days before the event.
- The Recreation Advisory Board may review applications if time permits, but final approval is granted by the Leisure Services Department Director.
- Applicants will receive a written approval or denial within 30 days of submission.
