3 - Funding
The FIRE Doctoral School will provide a limited number of fellowships to the highest ranked candidates. Therefore we strongly advise you to seek alternative funding opportunities to secure final admission if your application is declared eligible by our international scientific committee.

The FIRE Doctoral School enthusiastically welcomes ambitious students addressing the challenges of our time from a fresh perspective and having a scientific background or a different area of expertise. Please use the two statements below to present your curriculum and your motivation for doing a PhD with us.

Personal statement (1 page, pdf)
In 1 page or less, provide a narrative on your curriculum outlining the reasons of your choices, your collective responsibilities and previous experiences in line with the proposed PhD project.

Motivation statement (1 page, pdf)
In 1 page or less, explain your motivation to undertake an interdisciplinary PhD project at the FIRE Doctoral School and how this project fits with the LPI mission.

PhD projects at the FIRE Doctoral School aim to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address challenges related to Planetary Health. The proposed project should explore new disciplinary interfaces through innovative approaches and demonstrate potential for real-world impact.

Research proposal (3-4 pages including references, pdf)
In 3-4 pages, detail your proposed PhD research project. Proposals must not exceed the page limit. Anything over 4 pages will not be considered.

Your proposal should:
- Clearly define the research question, considering what is known and unknown;
- Describe the methodology and implementation logic used to address the research question, detailing specific aims;
- Discuss how the research challenges existing work;
- Outline the expected impact of the project, including its potential to generate and share knowledge that promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and/or addresses challenges related to Planetary Health;
- Provide a timeline appropriate for a 3-year PhD;
- Address ethical considerations, if applicable.
