    Special Olympics Vermont is hosting its 2026 Winter Games at The Hermitage Club on March 9th and March 10th. We are looking for volunteers to help make this an amazing event!

  • Volunteer Options

  • Volunteer Roles and Descriptions:

    1. Mountain Guide - You will be assigned a group of athletes and be responsible for keeping them together and helping them travel to the competition start line, and when applicable, navigating the chair lift.
    2. Start Area Marshall - Start Area Captain
    3. Starter - Positioned at the starting gate and starting each run
    4. Gate Judge - Monitor competitions for disqualifications
    5. Course Crew - Help maintain the course throughout the day
    6. Finish Line Timer - Time athletes during competitions
    7. Backup Timer - Another timer to validate times 
    8. Finish Line Announcer - Annouce when athletes finish their run
    9. Course Setter - help set up and break down course
    10. Event Stager - Help line up athletes for competition
    11. Results Secretary  - Record scores/times from divisions and determine athlete placement based on scores/times
    12. Ski Patrol/Medical - On mountain medical
    13. Meal Clerk - Check credentials during meals
    14. Backup Meal Clerk -  Collect payment for meals
    15. Awards Clerk (Awards Ceremony) - Ensure accurancy of awards, assist with medal preparation
    16. Awards Presenter (Awards Ceremony) - Drape medals on athletes
    17. Awards Stager (Awards Ceremony) - Arrange athletes based place prior to athletes getting announced and receiving awards
    18. Awards Announcer (Awards Ceremony) - Announce all places during awards
    19.  Photography - take photos of the amazing event

    I agree to the following:

    1. Ability to Participate. I am physically able to take part in Special Olympics activities. I know there is a risk of injury.
    2. Likeness Release. I give permission to Special Olympics, Inc., Special Olympics games/local organizing committees, and Special Olympics accredited Programs (collectively “Special Olympics”) and Special Olympics partners and sponsors to use my likeness, photo, video, name, voice, words, and biographical information to promote Special Olympics, raise funds for Special Olympics, and acknowledge partners’ and sponsors’ support for Special Olympics.
    3. Emergency Care. If I am unable, or my guardian is unavailable, to consent or make medical decisions in an emergency, I authorize Special Olympics to seek medical care on my behalf.
    4. Personal Information. I understand that Special Olympics will be collecting my personal information as part of my participation, including my name, image, address, telephone number, health information, and other personally identifying and health related information I provide to Special Olympics (“personal information”).
      1. I agree and consent to Special Olympics:
        1. Using my personal information in order to: make sure I am eligible and can participate safely; run trainings and events; share competition results (including on the Web and in news media); provide health treatment if I participate in a health program; analyze data for the purposes of improving programming and identifying and responding to the needs of Special Olympics participants; perform computer operations, quality assurance, testing, and other related activities; and provide event-related services.
        2. Using my contact information for communicating with me about Special Olympics.
        3. Sharing my personal information with (i) medical professionals in an emergency, and (ii) government authorities for any purpose necessary to protect public safety, respond to government requests, and report information as required by law.
      2. I have the right to ask to see my personal information or to be informed about the personal information that is processed about me. I have the right to ask to correct and delete my personal information, and to restrict the processing of my personal information if it is inconsistent with this consent.
      3. Privacy Policy. Personal information may be used and shared consistent with this form and as further explained in the Special Olympics privacy policy at www.SpecialOlympics.org/Privacy-Policy.
    5. Waiver and Liability Release. I understand the risks involved with participation in Special Olympics activities. I fully accept and assume all risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and damages I may incur as a result of my participation. I release and agree not to sue any Special Olympics organization, its directors, agents, volunteers, and employees, and other participants (“Releasees”) related to any liabilities, claims, or losses on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the Releasees. I further agree that if, despite this release, I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I will indemnify and hold harmless each of the Releasees from any such liabilities, claims, or losses as the result of such claim. I agree that if any part of this form is held to be invalid, the other parts shall continue in full force and effect.

  • Depending on your shift, as a volunteer you may receive breakfast, lunch and/or dinner and a lift pass for each day you volunteer. The estimated per person cost of a lift pass is $30 and meal costs are expected to range from $10 (breakfast), $15 (lunch), to $20 (dinner). If you would like to make a donation to help Special Olympics Vermont cover the costs associated with 2026 Winter Games, please do so below!

              2025 Highlights:

              1. 22 Games and Competitions Held - With a 22% increase in athlete participation at our state-wide games!
              2. Our largest competition was our 2025 Summer Games at Saint Michael's College, with almost 400 athletes in attendance!
              3. 60+ Unified Champion Schools, with 7 nationally recognized schools, including our first middle school, Albert D. Lawton Middle School, that became a national banner school.
              4. 500+ Health Screenings performed across 5 disciplines: Dental/Oral, Physical Therapy, Preventative Health, Vision, and Hearing.
