    Youth Volunteer Opportunities
    Are you a high school student looking to complete volunteer hours or gain experience? BGC London offers two pathways:

    1. General Volunteer Route
    Designed for students completing up to 40 hours for graduation. Includes basic training and a placement with limited responsibilities.

    2. Enhanced Volunteer Route
    Offers additional training and certifications at a discounted rate, including First Aid/CPR, Safe Food Handling, High Five, etc., plus placements with more responsibility and skill-building opportunities for your resume and a chance to interview for jobs at BGC London and local businesses.

    Enhanced placements may include:

    Leading children’s programs or coaching sports
    Assisting in our café and food service
    Supporting front desk and admin tasks
    Planning and running events
    Helping Lifeguards with lessons and poolside duties

  • Applicants 18 years of age and older are required to have a Vulnerable Sector Check for BGC London (the Boys and Girls Club of London). If you are under the age of 18, a Vulnerable Sector Check will not be required unless you reach your 18th birthday while volunteering.

    If/When you require a Vulnerable Sector Check, we can provide more information on how and when to complete this step. The cost is reimbursed to volunteers once they've begun volunteering. We strongly encourage applicants to WAIT until we review your application and let you know if you'll be required to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check. Not all opportunities require one.

  • Code of Conduct

    For volunteers
  • All volunteers at BGC London are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.

    1. Respect and Dignity:

    • Treat colleagues, clients, and Club staff with dignity and respect.
    • Demonstrate sensitivity to individual rights and cultural diversity.
    • Understand that racist, sexist, economic, or other offensive comments will not be tolerated.

    2. Punctuality:

    • Arrive on time as pre-scheduled with the Supervisor.
    • Notify the Supervisor in advance to make changes to schedules.

    3. Dress Code:

    • Dress appropriately as directed by the Club's dress code.

    4. Attendance:

    • Sign in on Charity Republic or the Volunteer Sign-In Binder and follow the volunteer schedule for assigned duties.

    5. Resource Management:

    • Respect and honour policies concerning the Club's resources (phone, meals, computer equipment, office supplies, recreational, or audiovisual equipment).

    6. Safety and Emergency Procedures:

    • Follow all policies and procedures regarding safety and emergency plans and act accordingly.

    7. Substance Use:

    • Any impairment of a volunteer’s ability to perform duties linked to drug or alcohol use, and/or possession of drugs or alcohol, will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal.

    8. Smoking Policy:

    • Do not smoke on the premises (within 30 feet of any door) before or during volunteer shifts.

    9. Hands-Off Policy:

    • Adhere to the Club's "HANDS OFF" policy with clients.

    10. Behaviour:

    • Do not engage in any illegal or immoral behaviour.
    • Do not leave any area unattended.
    • Be actively involved with the clients and do not remain idle.
    • Act as a role model to clients of the Club and use appropriate language. Inappropriate actions and language will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal.

    11. Reporting Serious Matters:

    • Notify a staff member of any serious matters and do not take matters into your own hands.

    12. Personal Information:

    • Inform the Supervisor of any changes to personal information.
    • Do not discuss inappropriate personal information with clients, other volunteers, or staff.

I understand that I will receive a copy of the Volunteer Handbook and acknowledge that it is my responsibility to read its contents. I understand that failure to do so could result in my dismissal from volunteering at BGC London.

  • Confidentiality Agreement

    For Volunteers
  • Confidentiality: The Volunteer acknowledges that, while in service with Boys & Girls Club of London (“BGCL”/BGC London), they may acquire, be given access to, author, or otherwise come into contact with information (the “Information”) about certain matters which are confidential to the BGCL, which Information is the exclusive property of the BGCL, including but not limited to, the following:

    1. Staff information and lists;
    2. Member and user personal information;
    3. Purchase, pricing and sales policies and concepts;
    4. Financial information; and
    5. Business plans, forecasts and market strategies.

    Because this Information could be used to the detriment of the BGCL, and/or may be considered by the BGCL to be valuable, secret, proprietary and/or confidential and disclosure of such Information could cause irreparable harm to the BGCL, the Volunteer will be required to treat confidentially all Information and not to disclose, divulge, furnish, transfer, sell, copy, release or otherwise make the Information public or available to any third party or use it for any purpose either during their time of service, except as may be necessary in the proper discharge of the duties, or for the purposes of advancing the interests of and for the entire benefit of the BGCL, or after termination of service for any reason except with the written permission of the BGCL.

    The Volunteer agrees that if they are unsure as to whether something is or is not Confidential Information, the Volunteer will err on the side of caution by treating it as Confidential Information until they confirm otherwise with their Supervisor. The Volunteer further agrees that they will immediately report any and all breaches of confidentiality of which the Volunteer becomes aware to their Supervisor.

    The Volunteer agrees to fully comply with the applicable privacy legislation in effect from time to time (including, but not limited to, all obligations respecting the collection, use, protection and disclosure of Personal Information) and all of the privacy policies and procedures of BGCL, which are brought to the Volunteer’s attention or of which they should be reasonably aware.

    All notes, data, tapes, reference items, memoranda, records, diskettes and other materials in any way relating to any of the Information or to the BGCL’s business or clients produced by the Volunteer or coming into their possession by or through service will belong exclusively to the BGCL and they will turn over to the BGCL all copies of any such materials in their possession or under their control, forthwith, at the request of the BGCL or, in the absence of a request, on the termination of service with the BGCL for any reason.

    I have read this Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement and agree to abide by it.

    From time to time, BGC London wishes to take photographs and/or video recording during children and youth recreation programs and special events.

    These photos may be posted on our website, social media, and promotional materials, and may be shared with local media outlets.

    We would appreciate having your consent to include you within any photographs and/or video recordings taken.

  • I hereby give BGC London consent to use and reproduce my/the volunteer's first name and image for promotion purposes related to BGC London, its member BGCs, and/or external partners. The first name (unless otherwise authorized)/image may be published or used in newspapers, promotional videos, television commercials, program brochures, posters, on World Wide Web, or otherwise displayed to the public or used for other educational/fundraising purposes, either in whole or in part by BGC London, it member BGCs, and/or external partners. I release BGC London and its affiliates from any and all claims, of any nature, based on any uses of the above.

  • TO:    Boys & Girls Club of London and the Boys & Girls Club of London Foundation (together the “BGCL”) and their directors, officers, employees, instructors, agents, representatives, volunteers, independent contractors, subcontractors, sponsors, successors and assigns (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Releasees”).

     

    COVID – 19   COVID-19 is a contagious disease (“Covid”). We care about you, your family, our employees and the public. We strive to obey the law and follow Covid guidelines and implement all risk mitigation measures. However there are significant health risks and high risk of transmission through physical or shared contact. COVID-19 is novel and, because it can be transmitted through physical or shared contact with another person, the risk of contraction from engaging in sport activities may be foreseeable.

     

    ASSUMPTION OF RISKS

    I am aware that the activities at the BGCL programs involve risks and dangers that may cause serious injury and even death, and loss or damage to personal property. These risks are inherent in the activities and cannot be eliminated without altering their character and value. The risks include, among others, the following: contracting Covid;  moving about the BGCL premises; negligence on the part of myself and/or other participants; negligence of the BGCL and its staff, including the improper use of equipment; the breakage and failure of equipment and structures; over exertion, together with other risks which may be encountered and NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES, INCLUDING THE FAILURE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES TO SAFEGUARD OR PROTECT ME FROM THE RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS REFERRED TO ABOVE.

     

    The BGCL programs are designed for use by participants of average strength, mobility and fitness who are in good health. Several medical
    conditions, including but not limited to obesity, high blood pressure, cardiac and coronary artery disease, pulmonary problems, arthritis, tendonitis, or joint and muscular-skeletal problems may impair the safety and well being of participants as may other medical, physical, psychological or psychiatric problems. All such medical conditions may increase the risk of participating in the programs and cause the participant to be a danger to themselves or others. Participants with underlying medical, physical, psychological or psychiatric conditions must evaluate their condition and their ability before choosing to participate in the programs. All participants must inform BGCL in writing of any such medical, physical, psychological or psychiatric conditions before participating in any programs. The Releasees reserve the right to prevent any person, for medical or safety reasons, from participating in the programs at any time.

     

    I AM AWARE OF THE RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH MY USE OF THE BGCL PROGRAMS AND I FREELY ACCEPT AND FULLY ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE AND LOSS RESULTING THEREFROM.

     

    RELEASE OF LIABILITY, WAIVER OF CLAIMS AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT

    In consideration of the Releasees permitting my use of the BGCL PROGRAMS and other facilities at the BGCL (hereinafter referred to as “the BGCL Facilities”), I hereby agree as follows:

     

    1. TO WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS that I have or may in the future have against the RELEASEES, and TO RELEASE THE RELEASEES from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense or injury including death that I may suffer, or that my next of kin may suffer resulting from either my use of or my presence at or on the BGCL Facilities DUE TO ANY CAUSE WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE, BREACH OF CONTRACT, OR BREACH OF ANY STATUTORY OR OTHER DUTY OF CARE, INCLUDING ANY DUTY OF CARE UNDER THE OCCUPIERS LIABILITY ACT, RSO 1990, c.02  ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES, AND ALSO INCLUDING THE FAILURE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES TO SAFEGUARD OR PROTECT ME FROM THE RISKS, DANGERS AND HAZARDS REFERRED TO ABOVE;

     

    1. TO HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY THE RELEASEES from any and all liability for any damage to property of or personal injury to any third party, resulting from my use of or presence on the BGCL facilities.

     

    I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS AGREEMENT AND I AM AWARE THAT BY SIGNING THIS AGREEMENT I AM WAIVING CERTAIN LEGAL RIGHTS WHICH I OR MY HEIRS, NEXT OF KIN, EXECUTORS, ADMINISTRATORS, ASSIGNS AND REPRESENTATIVES MAY HAVE AGAINST THE RELEASEES.
