    Invasive Plant Removal Events in Loudoun

    WHAT:

    Come on out and socialize with your fellow residents, get some exercise, and make a difference in Loudoun County.  In celebration of National Invasive Species Awareness Week (2/22-3/2), we are joining other Virginia counties in hosting invasive removal events. 

    Loudoun will be hosting 3 events:

    • Sunday, February 23: 1PM - 4PM, Ashburn Village
    • Saturday, March 1:  10AM - 1PM, Lansdowne on the Potomac
    • Sunday, March 2:  1PM - 4PM, Broadlands

    During the event, participants will remove invasive plants easily identified and accessed in the winter season, including vines like English Ivy and Vinca and shrubs including Amur and Japanese Honeysuckle.  Volunteers will be lead by experienced professionals and trained volunteers.  

    **This event is not suitable for children under the age of 18 because we will be using herbicides.

     WHERE:

    • Ashburn Village: 20585 Ashburn Village Blvd, Ashburn
    • Lansdowne on the Potomac: 19245 Snider House Court, Leesburg
    • Broadlands: 43004 Waxpool Road, Broadlands

    WHAT TO BRING:

    • Hand pruners, loppers, pruning saws if you have them. Not required.
    • If you plan to participate, you must wear a hat, safety glasses, long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and gloves (gloves and glasses provided).
    • Dress for the weather.

    NOTE: Participants will be working with herbicides. Personal protective equipment (safety glasses and nitrile gloves) will be provided.
