  • Join us for the 18th edition of the now classic, Gulf Coast Judo Open Tournament in beautiful Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Juniors, Seniors, Senior Novice and Masters divisions will be fought. Custom awards and junior team trophies to be given as well as the spirit of Judo award. ELECTRONIC REGISTRATION ONLY THROUGH JOTFORM.  NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION. We hope to see you on the mat. Senseis

    Sanction: United States Judo Association Level “B” 

    Competition Times:  Juniors 10:00 a.m. Followed by Masters, then Seniors

    Eligibility:  Open to members holding USA Judo, USJF or USJA cards.

    Awards:   Individual 1st, 2nd and 3rd (Trophies)

    Junior Team:  1st, 2nd and 3rd (Large Trophies); 

    Spirit of Judo Award:  (Junior and Senior) Given to the competitor who best shows the spirit of Judo at the competition.

    Weigh In:  Divisional sign-up (for grouping) with on-site weight confirmation.

    Entry Fees :  Before Friday February 28, 2025:  $50.00. After February 28, 2025: $65.00                         

    $20.00 For Each Additional Division (one additional division maximum)

    Registration closes on Friday March 7, 2025 at 6:00 PM  
    NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION WILL BE PERMITTED.

    DIVISIONS:
    Junior Boys:  6 & Under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 (divided by weight)
    Junior Girls:  6 & Under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 (divided by weight)
    Senior Men Novice* (Green and Under) Light, Medium and Heavy, +
    Senior Men (Brown and Over)             Light, Medium and Heavy, +’
    Senior Women                                   Light, Medium and Heavy, +
    Masters Men/Masters Women (over 30years old) Light, Medium and
    Heavy, + (divided by sex/weight)

    *Juniors, 15 years or older may enter the senior novice division with coach/parent authorization.

    Organizer may consolidate divisions based on participation and in the interests of safe and fair competition.

    Rules:   Current IJF [Modified]: as to mat size and gi size.   

    Shime: Choking allowed for 13 and over only

    Kansetsu: No armbars for Senior Men Novice. Armbars permitted for other Senior/Master Divisions.

    Time: 3 Minute Matches—Juniors and Masters; 4 Minute Matches—Mens and Womens

    Scoring: Modified Double Elimination: in Division of 4 or more.
                 Round Robin for Division of 3 or less.

    TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MODIFY THESE RULES AS NEEDED FOR SAFETY OR AS PARTICIPATION DICTATES.

    A white uniform, white belt, and blue belt are required by all judoka. Uniforms should cover the wrist and ankles. No t-shirts should be worn under the uniform except for females who should have a white t-shirt. A limited number of white and blue belts will be available for competitors to borrow.

    In specific consideration of being permitted to participate including travel to and from, the Gulf Coast Judo Open  Tournament and related events and activities of Gulf Coast Judo, LLC, United States Judo Association, United States Judo Federation, USA Judo, and The City of Ocean Springs. I hereby:

    1. Acknowledge that I am familiar with the sport of Judo and understand the rules governing the sport of Judo.

    2.Agree that before participating - I will inspect the mats, equipment,facilities, competition pools or divisions and the elimination or scoring system to be used. If I believe anything is unsafe or beyond my capability, I will immediately advise my coach, supervisor, and/or a tournament official of such conditions and refuse to participate.

    3. Acknowledge and understand that I will be engaging in a contact sport that might cause serious injury, including permanent injury, disability or death, and severe social and economic losses due to not only my own actions, inactions, or negligence, but also to the actions, inactions, or negligence of others, the rules of the sport of Judo, or conditions of the premises or of any equipment used. Further, there may be other risks not known or not reasonably foreseeable.

    4. Knowing the risks involved in the sport of Judo, I assume all such risks and accept personal and legal responsibility for the damages following such injury including but not limited to the potential for permanent injury, disability, or death.

    5.I Release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue the Gulf Coast Judo, LLC, United States Judo Association, United States Judo Federation and The City of Ocean Springs, together with their affiliated clubs, their respective administrators, directors, owners, agents, coaches and other employees or volunteers of the organization, event officials, medical personnel, other participants, their parents, guardians, supervisors and coaches, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners, lessors, and lessees of premises used to conduct the event, all of whom are hereinafter referred to as "releasee", from any claims, demands, losses, or damages because of injury, including permanent disability and death and damage to property, caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the releasee or otherwise to the fullest extent permitted by law.

    I HAVE READ THE ABOVE WARNING, WAIVER AND RELEASE, UNDERSTAND THAT I GIVE UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING IT, AND KNOWING THIS, SIGN IT VOLUNTARILY. I AGREE TO PARTICIPATE KNOWING THE RISK AND CONDITIONS INVOLVED AND DO SO ENTIRELY OF MY OWN FREE WILL
