The Lowell Morris and Duke Turner Benefit Scholarship was created in memory of Lowell Morris and Marshall "Duke" Turner. Funds where raised by an annual event held on Duke Turners farm in Owsley County. Lowell was a very talented musician and took great pride in being from Eastern Kentucky. Duke Turner was an Excellent carpenter and block mason and he also took great pride in being from Eastern Kentucky. 2 scholarships will be awarded too two Breathitt County Highschool seniors. The scholarship is intended for a young man or woman attending a 2 or 4 year university or attending a technical school. Please be specific in your Application as to which you will be attending.
Students will be notified by email of any scholarship award or denial on or before May 1, 2025
Application Requirements:
- Completed and signed application –emailed with required attachments by March 31, 2025
- Official high school transcript showing a GPA of at least 2.5.
- A brief description of planned area of study and career goals
- An essay must accompany your application. It must be typed, double spaced using 12 point
Times New Roman font and should be no more two pages long.
Essay Question: Please describe how you, as an adult, you will strive to help create a better world. This can be through field of study, or personal commitment.
