  • Eligible Participants: This course is intended for those with basic knowledge of trauma-informed care. The training will benefit ABA Professionals (BCBA’s, BC’s, RBT’s), School-Based Clinicians, Special Education Staff, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Graduate Students, Interns, and others who support children with Autism.

    Date/Time: Friday, February 21, 2025; 10 am - 12 pm

    Method: Live Instruction via Zoom (Link will be provided prior to training)

    Cost: $25 per person

    CE Credits: Eligible participants will receive 2 BCBA, NBCC, PA SW/LPC/MFT, and/or ACT 48 Credits upon completion of course requirements.

    Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC) is approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc., the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (ACT 48) to award continuing education credits to eligible participants.

    Description: This course focuses on the practical application of trauma-informed strategies when addressing problem behaviors in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

    Course Format: This 2-hour course will be held on-line via Zoom. Participants will engage in interactive exercises, case studies, and guided reflections to learn key techniques and build confidence in their ability to respond to challenging behaviors in a supportive and trauma-informed manner.

    Course Objectives: This course is intended to enable participants to:

    1. Practice Empathy: Look at what is contributing to challenging behaviors through the child's lens. Learn to recognize signals and de-escalate early to avoid a crisis.
    2. Engage in Self-Reflection: Evaluate how personal responses reinforce positive or negative behaviors - even inadvertently.
    3. Practice a Relationship-Based Approach: Learn responses that utilize trauma-informed care principles and strategies when addressing challenging behavior.
    4. Prioritize Self-Care: Recognize the emotional and physical toll of responding to daily challenges. Know one's limits and value the importance of self-care.
    5. Value Teamwork: Enhance communication and collaboration among staff to create a consistent and unified approach to behavior management.
