  • VMRC Employee Work Commitment

    • I understand that if I receive a scholarship, then I am required to fulfill a work commitment. The work commitment requires a minimum of 20 hours per week in alignment with one of the following options:
      • If I use the scholarship to complete a program that requires one year of study, then I am required work for VMRC for at least one year after program completion.
      • If I use the scholarship to complete a program that requires to or more years of study, then I am required to work at VMRC for at least two years after program completion. 
    • I agree to take any available nursing position, including day, evening, or night shifts, upon graduation.

  • Application Materials

    There are three sets of materials: Personal Statement, Educational Documentation, and Reference Letters. Please review the descriptions and directions for each below.

  • Personal Statement 

    Please respond to the prompts listed below with a minimum of 150 words per topic. Upload all four responses in one Word document or PDF.

    • Explain your passion for healthcare
    • Describe your goals for the future
    • Discuss how you've been resilient (moved forward in hard situations)
    • Connect VMRC's values with your expereinces and goals

  • Educational Documentation

    If you are currently in school (high school, vocational, college, or university) or have been within the past 24 months, then please submit relevant educational documentation. If you are not currently in school or have not been in school within the past 24 months, then plese move to the Reference Letters section.

    • Transcripts: If you're currently in school or have been within the last 24 months, then please upload your most recent academic transcript. 
    • Proof of Enrollment: If you are currently enrolled in a nursing program, then please upload proof of your enrollment.
  • Reference Letters

    All recommendation letters must focus on your adaptability, leadership, work ethic, and compassion. 

     

    Choosing Your References

    You will need two reference letters: one from a professional reference and one from an academic reference. If either a professional or academic reference is not available, then either two professional or two academic letters are acceptable. 

    • Professional Reference: A letter from a current or previous employer. 
    • Academic Reference: A letter from a teacher, professor, or academic advisor.

     

    Communicating with Your References

    • Provide your references with the Scholarship Recommendation Letter Guidelines document when you ask them to write letters on your behalf (see below). 
    • Request that your references submit letters directly to maryreitzscholarshipcommittee@vmrc.org by February 13, 2026.
