  • Forest Friends Summer Camp is an inclusive neurodiversity affirminig nature based summer camp designed to foster nature connection, social emotional growth and sensory regulation, through open ended play and facilitated games and activities. We meet at an accessible location in Joaquin Miller for easy drop off, and then head into the woods to our home base, starting the day off with our morning meeting. Each day will follow a simple routine that is balanced with natural rhythms and group interests.  

    Details: 

    • Forest Friends is a neuroaffirming program for both neurodivergent and neurotyical children between the ages of 5-7
    • Our specialized program integrates interoceptive and sensory awareness games and activities to build confidence and foster friendships and social skills. 
    • Our small group camps meet in Joaquin Miller Park
    • 1:3 camper/staff ratio
    • Camp is lead and desinged by an Occupational therapist

    June 16-20th, Monday-Friday, 9:00-1:00: Sensory Detectives

    Is This Program a Good Fit For Your Child ?

    We welcome all children to participate in Forest Friends Summer Camp, regardless of developmental, social or emotional skills.

    We do require that children:

    • Are able to function in a group setting with 6-7 children
    • Are able to stay within the unfenced forest area in the woods without frequent reminders 
    • Maintain personal safety with adults notably stepped abck and not within arm's reach
    • Maintain safe behavior that does not endanger the safety of other children (or staff) or compromise the play of other children.
    • When you register your child for our Forest Friends summer camp, you are verifying that (to the best of your knowledge) your child is able to be successful with all four above points.

    Program Notes:

    • This a drop off program
    • Drop off/pick up is at an accessible location with parking nearby. 
    • You will receive a welcome packet (emailed to the email account you register with) two weeks in advance of the first day of camp, with information on where to go, what to wear, what to bring, and what to expect.
    • Please note the registration fee includes the entire week of camp and refunds are not available for any missed days. If for some reason you wish to cancel your enrollment in the camp, this must be submiited 4 weeks prior to the first day of camp to receive a full refund. 
    • There is a public restroom within walking distance however this restroom is maintained by Oakland Parks and Rec and may be closed without notice (this has not happened in a few years thankfully). We provide a travel sized toilet on site. 
    • Forest Friends meets Rain or Shine. You will be notified in the event of a cancellation due to severe or unsafe weather conditins. 
    • Forest Friends is 100% outdoors. Weather-appropriate attire is required.
    • Your child may get wet/dirty/muddy and may get paint, etc. on their bodies or clothes, please dress accordingly and pack an extra change of clothes.

    Registration Fee of $695 Includes:

    • A week of magical playdates in the Redwoods
    • Open ended nature play invitations
    • Sensory and Self-Regulation themed games/activities
    • Access to tree swings and hammocks
    • Facilitated group activities
    • Nature Based Learning Resources for caregivers 
    • 10% discount is offered when enrolling a sibling

  • Live Oak Kids Policies

    Service Fee/Invoices: All invoices are due upon receipt. Registration fees are non-refundable regardless of your actual attendance. No refunds, credits, or alternative program options will be offered due to illness, schedule conflict, or change of plans. 

    Program Cancellation: If the full series is canceled by Live Oak Kids, due to low enrollment, weather, or other necessary reasons, you will be contacted via email or phone and offered either a program credit to use towards any future Live Oak Kids program (within 12 calendar months from the date of your registration) or a full refund. If you need to cancel your camp registration, you must do so 4 weeks before the first day of camp. 

    Weather: Forest Friends is a 100% outdoor program. We meet rain or shine. Cancellation due to weather will only be in the event of unhealthy air quality or unsafe weather conditions. Weather-appropriate attire is required for all members of your family. It can be 10 degrees cooler in the redwoods so bring layers and plan accordingly. If cancellation due to weather occurs, a credit for a future make up session will be scheduled or a refund will be issued. 

    Toileting: There is a public Oakland City Parks and Recreation bathroom located nearby, however this facilty may be closed without notice. Live Oak Kids provides a travel toilet station and hand sanitizer as an alternative. 

    Attire: Please be advised that while your child is outside, their clothes will likely get dirty, messy, muddy, etc. Any damage to clothing due to activities in the woods is not the responsibility of Live Oak Kids. Children will have the opportunity to engage in messy play, therfore it is advised to dress in items you don't mind getting messy. We recommend keeping a spare change of clothes in your backpack or car and a towel for wet days. Please check the weather on the day of your program. If it is raining, we will still hold the program and it will be important that your child wears a rain jacket, rain pants, and appropriate footwear. Make sure to wear long pants and closed-toed shoes to protect from poison oak exposure. 

    Privacy Policies 

    Live Oak Kids respects the confidentiality of its clients (child and legal parent/caregiver) and will maintain the privacy of your information by all applicable federal and state laws. Some of the uses and disclosures described in this notice may be limited in certain cases by applicable state laws that are more stringent than federal standards.

    Live Oak Kids collects data through a variety of means including but not necessarily limited to letters, phone calls, emails, voicemails, and from the submission of registration forms and consent forms that is either required by law, or a necessary requirement for participation in programs within Live Oak Kids. Information about your child that you provide to us in writing, via email, on the phone (including information left on voicemails), contained in or attached to registration forms, or directly or indirectly given to us, is held in strictest confidence. We do not disseminate any information about clients who inquire about or actually participate in our programs that is considered confidential information, as restricted by law, or has been specifically restricted.

    Required by law: We may be required to provide information to law officials under certain circumstances. We are mandatory reporters. We may be obligated to use or disclose your child's information to appropriate government agencies if we believe that your child is a possible victim of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or the possible victim of other crimes.

    Law Enforcement: We may disclose your child's information under limited circumstances to a law enforcement official in response to a warrant or similar process; to identify or locate a suspect; or to provide information about the victim of a crime.

    Liability Release Waiver and Authorization Form

    LIABILITY RELEASE WAIVER AND AUTHORIZATION FORM: Participation in Forest Friends exposes participants to certain risks of being in the outdoors. Accidents and injuries resulting from the forces of mother nature, live animal and bug interactions, slipping and falling, malfunctioning equipment, unseen obstacles, fatigue, and your own and others' misjudgment are very real possibilities.

    AFFIRMATION AND LIABILITY RELEASE THE UNDERSIGNED CERTIFY THAT THEY AGREE AS FOLLOWS: 1. I hereby affirm that I have been informed that there are inherent dangers of being outdoors at a nature program. 2. While all program participants are consistently well supervised, accidents do happen. The undersigned assume(s) all risk of injury or harm to any member of our family associated with participation in the program and agree(s) to release, indemnify, defend and forever discharge Live Oak Kids and its owner, staff, employees, and agents of and from all liability, claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses, actions and causes of action in respect of death, injury, loss or damage to the family member, or by the family member, howsoever caused, arising or to arise by reason of or during the family member's participation in the program. 3. I hereby agree to heed at all times the advice and instructions of Live Oak Kids staff and its owners to practice common sense while at this program. 4. The above-named participants, including all minor children have permission to participate in the activities of Live Oak Kids and Fores Friends. By signing this document, I acknowledge that if anyone is hurt or property is damaged during my family's participation in this activity, I may be found by a court of law to have waived my right to maintain a lawsuit against Live Oak Kids and it's owner or staff on the basis of any claim from which I have released them herein. I have had sufficient opportunity to read this entire document. I have read & understood it, and I agree to be bound by its terms.
