Get ready to step and sway at our Swing Dance Series! Join us for a series of fun-filled evenings where you can learn the classic moves of swing dancing. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, our talented instructors will help you dance the night away. Dust off your dancing shoes and let's make this spring one to remember!
Entry: Your participation supports BIR's efforts to raise money for scholarships. Dance, donate, and make a difference for our rowers. This event operates on a "pay what you can" basis, with a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $10 for students. You can donate here prior to the event or at the door on the day of the event.
Event Overview:
Doors open 15 minutes before start time.
First 30 minutes: Beginner swing lesson (no partner required), followed by dancing to popular recordings of swing/lindy hop music.
Dance Instructors: Beginning lesson instruction by local BIR parent and dancer Alex Harui and/or guest instructors.
Alex, first learned swing dancing in 1998 and has been dancing since. Swing and Lindy Hop are his favorite dance styles of the many other styles he's learned. Alex says Swing is the most fun and easy to learn, and can be danced to a wide variety of music: high-energy or laid-back, fast or slow, bouncy or groovy, and he is eager to share this dance with others.
About BIR: We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, boasting over 200+ members ranging from 13-90 years of age. As the largest high school sport on the island, we raised over $54,000 in scholarships in 2024, ensuring everyone has a chance to row.
