Part of the Annual HCPS Science & Arts Festival on Saturday, April 26, 2025 - at Hanover HS
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, as part of the annual HCPS Science and Arts Festival, the Virginia Chess Federation (VCF) is partnering with Hanover County Public Schools and organizing a Chess Tournament for children who attend Hanover County, VA, public schools or home schools. This event is for children who are in grades K through High School.

This tournament is free with awards for individual students and school teams.
- Players will compete in 1 of 3 "sections" based on their current grade in school: High School (Grades 9-12), Middle School (6-8), and Elementary School (K-5). Home-schooled students compete as individuals in the section corresponding to their current grade in school.
- A "team" is 2 or more students who attend the same HCPS public or home school and who are playing in the same section of the tournament. Public schools or home schools cannot combine to form a team; all players on a team must be from the same HCPS public or home school.
- EVERYONE plays 4 games -- this is NOT an elimintation tournament!

Registration onsite is from 10-11:15 AM. PLEASE avoid the "last minute rush" by registering online.

There will be a pre-tournament briefing at 11:30 AM, with the games beginning at 12-noon.

All Chess Sets and clocks will be provided by the VA Chess Federation.

There will be a Pre-Tournament Briefing at 11:30 AM.The chess games begin at 12-noon and may continue until 4 PM.Spectators must remain in the designated area for watching games.Parents are not allowed to talk to players or walk around among the games while they are in progress.FOOD is not allowed at your table when you are playing your game.
