  • About This Form

    This is not an official application. This form is to help determine if your experience matches the requirements for joining a contract as a professional Timber Faller on wildfires. Please answer the following questions regarding your experience. This is not an entry level position. Training will not be provided.
  • Do you live in the western United States (Colorado at the furthest)? If no, please do not proceed! Applicants not living in the western U.S. can not be considered.

  • Approximately when did you start production falling timber?
     - -
  • Are you able to supply references to verify 3,000 hours of cutting experience? If no, please do not proceed! Applications will not pass forest service approval without references.
  • Are you willing answer a fire call and dispatch to the location within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the call? (These locations are sometimes far and often remote.)
  • Are you willing to take the RT-130 Wildland Fire Safety class and capable of passing the physical pack test? (More info will be provided)
  • Do you already have or are you willing to invest in the required fire safety equipment and gear? ex. BK Radio, Nomex, Fire Shelter, etc.
  • Is your vehicle reliable and able to pass a DOT inspection?
  • Have you previously worked as a wildland firefighter for the feds or a state agency? This is not required, but an understanding of the inner workings of fire can be beneficial.
  • If yes to the above, did you receive your C Faller/Faller 1 certification?
  • Do you have your own insurance or are you willing to get it by June 1st?
  • Do you own at least two working and reliable chainsaws with a min of 67cc and min 30" bars?
  • On wildfires, you will be tent camping at fire camp or a spike camp. Do you have your own camping gear, or are you willing to get it by June 1st?
  • Are you aware of and okay with the fact that you'll be working with a falling partner and will be expected to collaborate, communicate, and look out for each other?
  • Are you capable of cutting some of the most dangerous trees that exist? (brittle snags, fire weakened trees with compromised material at the base or in tops, trees actively burning, etc.)
