By the Pride Society of the Comox Valley
  • Introduction

Hello! I'm Janine (she/her)–a gay, neurodiverse introvert and white settler with mixed european ancestry. I'm facilitating community conversations to capture the strengths and challenges of local 2SLGBTQIA+ members for resource development that affects policy and social change, and builds a safe, joyful, and connected community. I’ve had the joy of working alongside community advisors to guide this process, ensuring it aligns with the values of local 2SLGBTQIA+ members. Some groups will also have a co-facilitator to represent specific groups.
  • Information

Focus groups will be up to 90 minutes, and have 10 people/group. Focus group questions and outline will be shared ahead of time. We may receive more participants than we have the capacity to accept in groups. Selection will mainly be made on a first-come, first-served basis. If a group is full, and honorariums are available, we'll share additional options to have your voice heard. The survey will be available soon! Questions about the transparency regarding the process can be emailed to pscv2021@gmail.com.
  • Accessibility

Standard accessibility information: Funds may be provided if you experience additional barriers to participate in the focus groups and individual conversations. Additional accessibility requests can be completed in the registration form. Online option: camera can be on/off, pseudonyms can be used, and responses can be typed. In-person option: locations will be wheelchair accessible, neurodivergent friendly, and responses can be written and shared privately. Fidget toys, pens, paper, clipboards, and colouring will be available.
  • Supports

We will have a support person available at each focus group, along with resources and time to check in with a facilitator(s) afterward. In the weeks following each session, drop-in hours will be offered for counselling support, giving participants space to debrief. More information will be provided. Participants are welcome to provide feedback during and after the sessions.
  • Graphic Recording

Some focus groups will have a graphic recorder present. Graphic Recording is a process where experiences, ideas, and stories are shared by participants and translated into a visual narrative by an artist drawing in real-time. Participants are encouraged to contribute feedback to ensure their voices are represented as they wish. To learn about Carina, the graphic recorder, visit: https://www.carinamarienilsson.com/contact
