  • Sacrament of Confirmation

A child must have been baptised or been received into the Catholic Church (Profession of Faith), and have received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion to be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • The Sacrament of Confirmation Preparation Program will begin this year on Tuesday 19th August 2025 at 4:15pm at St Peter’s Parish Centre (583 Toorak Road, Toorak, 3142).

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Saturday 15th November 2025 at 6:00pm at St Peter's Church Toorak (581 Toorak Road, Toorak, 3142).

The Confirmation Sacramental Preparation is a 10-week programme. Each session will go for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, in which parents or pre-advised guardians can pick up their child/children from the Parish Centre (583 Toorak Road, Toorak, 3142). This is where most of the classes are run from.

The Parish’s Sacramental Program will be taught in person. For those who are unable to attend in person due to illness or immediate after school activities, homework and the session will be send to you, the parent via email after the session. Attendance for all sessions are essential, but understandably school camps, illness, etc. happen. Like at school, you will need to let Delisa or the Parish Office know if your child is unable to attend a scheduled session. If your child misses more than two sessions, a makeup session will need to be organised for another date and time.

Parents/Guardians will need to sign in and sign out their child/children during drop off and pick up times. Your child/children cannot sign in or out for themselves.

The Parish Carpark gates will be open from 4:00pm – 4:45pm and then again from 5:00pm – 5:45pm for your convenience. The Parish Carpark can be found at 585 Toorak Road, Toorak, 3142, underneath The Benson Retirement Village.

Please Note: Toorak Road towards Burwood becomes a ‘Tow Away Zone’ after 4:30pm, until 6:30pm. Directions to enter Underground Carpark via Toorak Road - Left Turn Only, from Toorak Road towards Burwood. No Right Turn allowed for City bound traffic.

Confirmation is an important step in the Journey of Initiation into the Catholic Church, and it provides a wonderful opportunity for us all to reflect on what it was like to receive the Holy Spirit into our lives.

We ask for your support, involvement, encouragement and prayer during this time of Preparation, so that your child may be well prepared and look forward eagerly to his or her Confirmation.

  • Choosing a Sponsor and Confirmation Name

When Parents and their child begin the discussion on who will be their child's Confirmation Sponsor they must keep in mind that Canon Law stipulates that a sponsor must be at least 16 years of age and be baptised and confirmed in the Rite of the Catholic Church and be able to give good example of what it is to live the Catholic faith through participation at Mass, prayer, in charitable service, and not under canonical penalty. (Canon 893, 894).

If the baptismal sponsor cannot be present on the day of the celebration of Confirmation, then a proxy should act on their behalf.

The role of the parents is to present their children for Confirmation - not act as a sponsor.

The Name chosen as Confirmation Name must be after a saint. If the child's baptismal name is a saint's name, that name may be retained for Confirmation. This will be discussed with your child during the Confirmation Sacramental Preparation Program.

  • ENROLMENT COMMITMENT:
We desire to enrol our child into the Parish Preparation Program for the Sacraments Confirmation.
We recognise that we are their first teachers in the ways of faith and that we are doing our best to provide for our child a true pattern of Christian living. In particular, we acknowledge a commitment to the celebration of Sunday Mass and of family prayer.
We are aware that our child must be carefully prepared for full and active participation in the Sacramental life of the Church, and that the responsibility for this preparation is primarily our own.
We rely on God’s help and the continued support and encouragement of God’s people in the Church to faithfully accept these responsibilities.

By signing below, we confirm that we have read and understood this document ‘Sacramental Preparation Enrolment Letter and Enrolment Form’ and, ‘Protecting God’s Children – Parent Resource: A Catholic Parent’s Guide to Keeping Their Kids Safe’ and we are willing to allow our child/children to participate in the Commitment Mass, Information Evening, the TEN Sacramental Preparation sessions and Ceremony as outlined in this form.
