  • The Federation of Community Social Services of BC’s Honorary Membership recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Federation over an extended period through sustained engagement and impact, or to the social care sector of BC via significant projects, leadership, or innovation in policy. Honorary Members are non-voting members, and this recognition is awarded sparingly by The Federation’s Board of Directors.

    This nomination process is intended to guide The Federation’s Board of Directors in considering potential Honorary Members. The appointment is made solely by The Federation’s Board of Directors.

  • Eligibility Requirements

    Honorary members are appointed based on the following criteria:

    • For individuals; including practitioners, volunteers, or staff members who have made exceptional contributions.
    • No current membership requirement; the individual does not need to be a current member of The Federation.
    • Retirement from official posts is not mandatory; however, the contributions made should reflect sustained involvement over time.
    • Sustained service and impact; nominees should demonstrate long-standing and exceptional service within The Federation or the broader social care sector in BC.
    • Outstanding contribution; contributions should reflect substantial, commendable input that has significantly impacted the sector and its communities.
  • About the Nomination Application & Submission

    Nomination packages, including all letters of support and supporting documentation, should be submitted via The Federation's online nomination portal. Collecting information for the Honorary Membership nomination may take some time.

    Prior to starting the online nomination form, we recommend the following:

    • Assign someone familiar with the nominee to take the lead on the application.
    • Collect all the information to support the nomination, including
      • nominee contact information (name, email)
      • nominator 2 contact information (name, email, current employer/organization name)
      • letters of support in PDF format from each nominator
      • additional letters of support in PDF format (optional)
      • additional supporting documents in PDF format (optional).
  • Nomination Requirements

    The nomination process requires the following:

    • Nominee's information
      Name, contact information, and relevant involvement with The Federation for the sector.
    • Nominators' information
      Two nominators who are current Federation members or partners.
    • Two Letters of Support
      A letter from each of the two nominators explaining why the nominee deserves honorary membership based on their sustained contribution and impact. Each letter should not exceed 2 pages.
    • Additional Letters of Support (optional)
      Between 1 to 3 additional letters of support from individuals who can further attest to the nominee's merit.
    • Supporting documents (optional)
      Up to 3 additional documents, such as newspaper clippings, testimonials, or past awards, that reflect the nominee's contributions.
  • Nomination Deadline

    Nominations are being accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed periodically by the Federation's Membership Committee.

  • Review Process

    • The Federation's Membership Committee will review all submissions and select a shortlist of candidates.
    • The Chair of the Membership Committee will present a shortlist to the Board of Directors for final review and voting.
  • Recognition and Membership Status

    • Honorary membership is granted for the lifetime of the individual and does not include voting rights within The Federation.
    • Honorary members will be recognized during Federation events, in publications, and on the Federation's website.
