  • The Lee-Career Alumni Association, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is providing a scholarship grant to a graduating Senior from Career who is a resident of New Haven.

    The scholarship is named for Peter Evans, a New Haven native and storied basketball coach and teacher at Lee High School and Career High School 

    The non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000 would be paid directly from the Alumni Association to the institution where the student has matriculated. 

    Background/History of the Scholarship

    The Lee-Career Alumni Association raises money from events we hold and items we sell to support the activities of the organization and recognize high-potential students. This scholarship was first awarded in 2025.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To apply for the scholarship, you must be a graduating Senior from Career HS who is a resident of the City of New Haven. After graduation you must be attending a four-year college, two-year college, or an accredited technical school.

    Application

    All applications must be submitted on-line.

    Latest academic transcript, two letters of recommendation, and a short essay are part of the application process. Applications will be evaluated for educational performance, leadership potential, and community involvement by a panel consisting of board members of the Lee-Career Alumni Association and inductees of the Lee-Career Hall of Fame.

    Deadline

    The deadline for applying will be April 15, 2025. The selected student will be announced at the Career Senior Awards event in June.

What are some of the most important things you've learned at Career and your volunteer/community activities, and how will you use those learnings to advance in your chosen field? How will this scholarship help you achieve your educational goals by directly addressing the financial challenges you currently face?

    1.     I understand that the Lee-Career Alumni Association will pay the scholarship funds directly to my educational institution and that only tuition for credit courses will be paid. 

    2.     I agree to provide the Lee-Career Alumni Associationwith a copy of my tuition bill with my student ID/account number to facilitate they payment.

    3.     I hereby certify that all of the information I have provided within the entire scholarship application is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I understand that if any information submitted with the scholarship application is determined to be false or mislead­ing (including any omission of material information), I will be disqualified from consideration for the scholarship.

    4.     I give consent to allow the Lee-Career Alumni Association use a photograph (or other likeness), as well as personal information about me (family, name, hometown, etc.), or statements for publicity purposes, which may include, but is not limited to, publication in newspapers, brochures, catalogs and website.
