Introduction:
Asset stewards have the job of supervising or taking care of infrastructure assets such as roads, buildings and water networks to make sure they are fit to provide the services required over their lifecycle. Traditional procedures have focussed on these “grey infrastructure” assets but increasingly there is a drive to include nature-based “green infrastructure” assets such as trees, constructed wetlands or living shorelines into asset management planning processes.
Emerging evidence shows that identifying, measuring and managing GI as part of an overall asset management strategy can save capital and operating costs, reduce risk when compared to engineered alternatives, and provide a wealth of additional ecosystem services and benefits that grey infrastructure cannot.
The Asset Management for GI project aims to develop best practice information, guidance, tools, resources and case studies to enable the inclusion of GI into traditional asset management planning and will cover: governance and communication; GI values, services and benefits; GI challenges and risks; GI asset identification; how to determine levels of service and future service demand; planning for each of the five asset lifecycle stages (acquisition, operation, maintenance, renewal and disposal/recycling); and the development of a GI Asset Management Plan and long-term financial plans.
This survey will identify gaps in asset management planning for GI, inform the development of the project deliverables and provide a benchmark for the current level of GI integration into mainstream asset and financial management planning processes. It contains 20 questions and will take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the project!
