Smoke Alarm Compliance Certification & Certificates
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hard wired alarms (240V) must be replaced with another hard wired alarm (240V) - They cannot be replaced with wireless units.
- A wirelss alarm can be installed in any room where a hard wired alarm (240V) has not previously been installed.
COMPLIANCE OF SMOKE ALARMS
- Compliant smoke alarms must comply with Australian Standards - AS 3766-2014. You will find this located on the smoke alarm
- Compliant smoke alarms MUST be photoelectric.
- Compliant smoke alarms must be within 10 Years of the date of manufacturer.
- Compliant smoke alarms must be interconnectable (if more than 1 alarm required throughout the house - studio apartments do not need to be interconnected)
INTERCONNECTION OF SMOKE ALARMS
All smoke alarms (under the same roof line) need to all sound if one alarm triggers.
Wired Interconnection - where there is 2 or more hardwired alarms in a property a wire is usually run between them so they will sound/trigger if one of the alarms is triggered
Wireless Interconnection - is achieved by following the maufactureers directions to tune all the untis together wirelessly.
TESTING ALARMS
Test alarms by holding the test button on one alarm, if they all alarm, your home is compliant.
EXAMPLES OF SMOKE ALARM POSITIONS
2 Storey Homes - if there are no bedrooms on a level of the building, one is required to be installed on the most likely path of exit.
